So basically this reputable jeweler took a nice 90's sub and swapped in a colored (Rolex part) Datejust face.  It's the watch Rolex should have made but didn't.  But they want $17k for what is otherwise a $9k watch.

They have a number of super high value watches available and a good reputation, so not concerned about quality, but I do question the price.  Thoughts?

It's a watch Rolex should not have made and fortunately didn't.

Sounds to me like it should cost less than a factory configuration.

If you get both dials, it should cost about $500-1000 dollars more than a normal Sub.  If you only get the Datejust dial it should be less than a comparable correct Sub.

You're accusing me of not getting art?!?

Well... yeah, that's kinda true.

17k for a 90's sub is just CRAZY price !!!

I would pass on that alone

Second  a Date-Just dial will not fit a Sub, because different movements, and dial feet positioning out some crazy moddlding of the dial

If you really like the configuration
I would find a more appropriately price 90's sub
And get the after market dial put in it you want.
Should cost less than 2k for pretty much any After Market dial you want.

You have the AM & the factory dial. That way

Please post of the watch.
I am wondering what it looks like.

Sounds like a Franken gun - would you pay more for a mixmaster or an all matching gun?

This is a money loser. You can get a nice sub under $10k.

ETA - did they change the bezel too?

I would pass hard on that. You can get a decent 5 digit sub under $10k on Chrono24 all day long.

Hard no.  If you want a mod watch, get a Seiko and save yourself 10-15k.  If you want a Rolex, get a factory configuration Rolex.

I'd rather have a Datejust.

That's like paying more for a home-stippled Glock.

Yeah uhhh... no.

But, all cards on the table, I wouldn't buy the normal version of either at today's prices.

All I know about fancy watches is what I learned watching a guy on YouTube fix and restore old watches. The face/dial is what makes an old watch desirable in my opinion. Sounds like they just ruined a nice vintage watch.
