Closed on the house 28 Nov '16, had about 80% stuff moved from the old house. '97 Suburban electrical fire a week later. All my stuff was in moving boxes on the side of the garage, including 3 ABC extinguishers. Which didn't help much when I smelled plastic, and opened the door to Zool. (Kitchen door about three feet from driver side). It had just burst the truck windows, which is why I smelled plastic burning. I could have stopped it at the truck with some minor smoke in the garage had I an extinguisher handy, which I didn't, because they were in boxes on the other side of the truck and the time to find them was about 45 seconds max. Then it was time to GTFO of the house because I burned 30 of the 45 seconds locating my phone, which left 15 and the smoke was getting a bit thick.

Now I have a huge trolley size 30lbs CO2, a ten lbs ABC, two potassium lactates in the kitchen, a 3 gallon class A water by the back door, and 3 2lbs ABCs in the hallway and both tenant bedrooms. Daddy don't plan to have any more fires get frisky when he's awake.

Seriously, If I had had one of those extinguishers, it would have been no biggie. Truck totalled but it was 20 years old and high miles and due for replacement once I got the moving hassle done. Get fire extinguishers. keep them handy. It's a low risk, but seriously high impact scenario.
