Reading some other forums, it sounds like there are general import casting models - 25, 30 and 45, and manufacturers seem to keep that number in their model designations. I'm in an internal arguement right now... If I'm willing to drive 8 hours, I can get what looks like an unused G0704 for $1750-ish, a new one via HD for $2200, a PM-30 for $3267-ish... and now I see one of the -45 variants not all that far from me. edit - the beast in question - FB mp link Am I thinking logically that an 800lb 45 series will be "better" than a 600lb PM-30? The bigger concern though... there are some common ballscrew kits and CNC controller / stepper kits for the Grizzly and PM mills. Initial searches don't show any nice semi-dropin setups for this one. Is anyone familiar with these, and CNC conversions for them? edit o k- I'm a bit stuck. Here are my options and a general thought or two on each. Converting to CNC at some not too far in the future time is an important goal - The intended purpose is light duty work in Aluminum and Steel - notching baffles, cutting features into endcaps, milling out some 80s, things like that. If I get really, really adventuresome, maybe flute a barrel to prove I should not be fluting barrels. - pure hobby use, once every other month or two. - It's really hard to justify doubling the base cost of the estate unit vs a PM w/ base. - Everyone talks about size being king, but a completely unknown CNC conversion path on the 45 makes me hesitate. G0704 - - $1750 - like new from estate, 8 hours of driving - think it still have the chinesium paper on the bed - $2200 - new delivered - - known quantity with Procut and AZ ballscrew conversions and Procut CNC controller/stepper kits - - conversion kit is a little cheaper than the PM-30 PM-30mv - - $3368 delivered - $3668 delivered with a base/stand - - known quantity with Procut and AZ ballscrew conversions and Procut CNC controller/stepper kits ZX-45 - $2400 local - comes with a few collets - no idea what motor is on it now - a bad pic in the add shows either a 1.0 or 10 hp Leeson 220-440 motor, and the Teco drive makes me think it's AC w/ VFD? Dude says it runs on 110, so I'm a little confused. - - complete unknown as far as CNC conversion down the road |
