"The title is a reference to the often-mistranslated quotation commonly attributed to Hermann Goering: "When I hear the word 'culture', that's when I reach for my revolver." The actual quote is "Wenn ich Kultur höre ... entsichere ich meinen Browning!" This translates as: "Whenever I hear [the word] 'culture'... I remove the safety from my Browning!" In fact, it is a line uttered by the character Thiemann in Act 1, Scene 1 of the play Schlageter, written by Hanns Johst. The association with Nazism is appropriate, as the play was first performed in April 1933, in honor of Hitler's birthday."

Yeah I realize its not Friday night (perhaps much to your surprise given my previous post). But my misspent youth still visits me in the wee hours of the morning no matter the day of the week so i thought I'd share.
The Beatles - Revolution 9 (Music Video) "On October 12, 1969..a caller by the name of "Tom" called the Russ Gibb show on Detroit radio station WKNR...and wanted to talk about Paul McCartney being dead. He told Russ that the clues were on the Beatles album covers...and if you played certain songs backwards...you would find more clues! This thing took off WORLWIDE! Radio stations across the US...Canada...etc. found their switch boards FLOODED with crying fans wanted to know more about the story. The story went that McCartney died in a car crash in November 1966. The Beatles kept the story from the press...and hired a man...(who was also a musician)...who had won a Paul McCartney look alike contest several years ago named William Campbell. He had a few plastic surgery "touch-ups"...and you basically couldn't tell the difference. That's why The Beatles stopped touring after 1966. That's why their music style changed...etc. " The Beatles Turn Me On Dead Man Paul Is Dead / Russ Gibb show |
