Probably should use powder or vinyl coated screws, like deck screws.  Also maybe stainless.

I put my gutters on with square drive stainless screws.

My first carpentry job was a cedar roof, when I was 13.
Been using SS ever since.

You want to use drywall screws on your fence? How well do you think it’s going to work?

Of course it’s going to be a rusty shit show. Stainless, or at least coated as typical deck screws.

Don't do it if you want it to last and/or look good.

Outside of stainless (the way to go if you care about lasting results), all screws seem to bleed/rust eventually in cedar although purpose made screws do a lot better.

A common problem I’m told with most deck screws is that they may have a ceramic coating that strips off of the threads when the screw is driven into the wood. So you believe that you’ve installed a good, quality screw but it doesn’t last. Stainless or galvanized is the way to go.
