So after a long stint off the road, in schools etc. I am finally headed back to the road with another agency. I have been looking forward to this for a while but am not looking forward to learning the new (to me) report system. We are currently using Spillman. From what I have seen the cad and ability to import information is nice but at least from where I am sitting the system is not intuitive at all. A number of items you have to know you need and then go and find them and then a number of imported items need to be edited before they can be validated. Part of my problem is likely that I remember hand writing reports and while slow the flow and necessary information at least seemed logical. I am getting trained on the program soon but am trying to get a jump start. Can anyone recommend a basic tutorial to navigate this system? Thanks |
| Best way to learn it is just use it. One of my recruits did a print screen of all the different screens and highlighted the mandatory boxes that need to be filled out. He stapled them together and anytime he had do a report he would pull out whatever packet he needed and would use it as a reference. |

I used Spillman for 5 years with almost zero issues at my last agency. Actually loved the program for the simple reason it offers name numbers so you can avoid having to type suspects info 3-4x like the Armms program we are using now. We are also using Lenns for running plates/DL's....a horrible POS system. If your agency is thinking os getting it, tell them to AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Constant crashes, locks you out of the program every 5 mins (if you're lucky to make it that long) instead of the 2 hours like advertised. Long delays to return information. The screen format is trash, you have to scroll side to side in a small window to read criminal history returns. Just garbage. |

Spillman blows. Glitchy, crashy POS system. The only nice thing about it was I had some glitch where I haven't had to change my password for the last 6 years. Got a message today that I have to change it in 9 days.

I was on the committee that chose Spillman for our county. Compared to some of the other options we were offered, it wasn't a hard decision. You get better with it over time. |
