Electric carmaker Tesla announced that it would focus on designing a humanoid robot and won't release any new models in 2022.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the company's priorities for the year during its fourth-quarter earnings call Thursday, saying the "most important product" Tesla was developing was a humanoid robot, not its highly anticipated Cybertruck.

Why wouldn't we eventually have a lot of robots functioning in society?

So much for the whole “the cybertruck is a totally real product and it will totally be available in 2022 and how dare you say Ford beat them to it by actually releasing something first” argument I heard here. Sucks for those who ordered those things years ago and are still sitting around wondering wtf happened.

All our infrastructure, tools, buildings, etc are designed around the human form.  They don't have to copy humans, but to really integrate robots into our lives most of them need to be a similar size and shape.

We need robots to replace the void that Boomers are about to leave us in the workforce. You can say it is already a problem post-Covid because so many of them already took early retirement.

On top of that, we want to have absolute certainty that Terminator become a documentary.

Is a company allowed to say, "hey, come take $1k pre-orders for an electric dildo," and then a year later be like, "hey, sorry, no electric dildos, we're gonna be focusing on anal bumcovers this year" ??

Every time the government tries to tell Elon what to do because he employs people, hes going to build a robot.

Interestingly, you have stumbled on an indisputable point - that boomers are the last generation that actually worked their entire lives without all the new federal money printing programs (TARP, PPP, "refundable tax credits", $5K a year per kid welfare payments, extended unemployment, etc. etc.)

Well duh. Space is dangerous, and the Mars colony won't build itself.
