I havnt heard of the "flat bottom EGW firing pin stop".  What does that do for the working of a 1911?

Thanks for the colt dual recoil suggestion ill have to check that out.

Reduces the mechanical advantage of the slide over the hammer. The slide has to cock the hammer, and this absorbs some of that energy.

To demonstrate the principle take a door and close it as much as you can without actually engaging the knob/lock/tab thing, and then try to push the door open with your hand right next to the hinges.

Huge bitch and requires a lot of energy, right?

Now try that again but push next to the knob. Barely takes any energy at all, right?

That's the idea.

I have just bought an M&P 2.0 full size in 45ACP, because my 45 compact shoots so softly, specially with the 10 round mags & a grip adapter.

The M&P tamed the .40cal down so much it feels like a 9mm. It does a great job of softening up a .45ACP OP al Olscruffy says!  The low bore axis, high grip the beavertail/grip allows, the recoil spring poundage... It's great. That said, you can tailor a 1911 down to be about as soft as a .45acp can be and still run ball ammo. The same can be said for a CZ 97B... All 3 would serve you well.

Para-Ordnance makes a steel framed, double stack 1911...P-14.  The early ones made in Canada are reported to be more reliable than newer ones, but I have no direct experience with any newer ones.  I have had a few of the made in Canada guns and they worked great.

G41 takes it in this category. The MK23 has a heavy slide that creates a weird muzzle flip. Have not found a lighter recoiling .45 than a G41.

Probably P220 or Mk23.

I found the USP 45 to have less than a 1911.

Friend just bought a P320 Compact in .45.  He has multiple 1911s and swears it's the softest shooting .45 he owns.

To me, doesn't seem any more recoil than full size pistols.  I've shoot 1911s and full size M&Ps quite a bit.  I can't say recoil is different.

I've got the p320 45 in full size and compact.  Neither one of them are softer than the mighty G14.
