I'm hoping the next gun I post is a new Python, but I'm trying to hold out for a blued one...if they make one...
The 1933 OMT .22 I had restored over the summer (before and after) 
The mutt DS I bought to mess around with. It came to me refinished and marked as a Sheriff's gun from a county in Tennessee. I added the Thai grips and since then a vintage Tyler T-Grip. Reliable, just not a collectible in any way.

I even did a blue filter and blue background so it would be a little more visually relaxing. My little project revolver. Started out as a 1915 Colt Police Positive .32 S&W Long with a 4" barrel I inherited years ago from my grandfather. It was kept in their camper years ago. The gun was a bit rusted and pitted but not too far gone. Chopped barrel to 2" and re-installed original sight. Stripped the gun down, removed bluing, blasted, cold-blued and reassembled. The crane, cylinder, and cylinder release where left in original bluing. Set of new grips and this is what I am left with. Turned out as a nice little package...and LGS actual has a decent supply of ammo for it.

New grips came in today Attached File Attached File Ordered them sight unseen, so was glad to find that they feel much better in the hand than the factory. FWIW, no matter what VZ oddly states on their website, their Cobra grips fit just fine on the King Cobra. Perplexed as to why they would claim otherwise... |

 My retired combat competition Colt MK IV Series '80 Government Model made in 1984, 5.5" Wilson Combat match stainless barrel with single port compensator. Front grip strap 20 LPI checkering and beveled mag well. Parts: Original Bo-Mar adjustable target rear sight Swenson extended ambi thumb safety Titanium hammer & firing pin Wilson Combat checkered slide release/ stop Wilson Combat aluminum adjustable trigger Wilson Combat extended mag release Wilson Combat beavertail grip safety Wilson Combat hammer spring housing 30 LPI checkering Pachmayr rubber grips Wilson Combat hex grip screws all Wolff springs CM stainless 10 rounds magazine (during competition I was also using a Wilson Combat drop-in/ flared EZ-Loader magwell - not pictured) When new using a pistol machine rest it would group with 200 gr H&G type semi wadcutter cast lead bullets, maximum powder load per reloading manual, fine target type powder, ten shot groups, best group was 1 inch at 25 yards. I retired it when I mostly lost to other competitors using .38 Super pistols and switched to a Caspian Arms 1911 .38 Super race gun, with two ports compensator and chrome finished, why fight them so I joined the .38 Super guys. |

My XSE is going to get some holster time soonish.  She isn't one of my beater grade Colts that I've been carrying lately.  This one holds a special place in my heart. It was a surprise gift a decade ago. I came home from working a midnight shift and dinner was sitting on my kitchen counter top. My Old Man had keys to my old place and would swing by when I'd be at work to grab something gun related since we constantly kept going back and forth with stuff. I'd need a shotgun wrench, he'd need a sight pusher, etc... but he'd also leave me a bite to eat so I wouldn't have to drag myself into the kitchen after pulling an all nighter. So I walk in, and low and behold. There's a meal with a lid on it. I removed the lid and instead of food, there was a 1911. Specifically a Colt XSE Combat Commander. He knew I wanted one and got me one as a surprise gift. There was a letter saying "I know you've had your eye on this, so consider it an early Christmas present." I carried it for a bit, and then it migrated back to the safe. I went from uniform patrol to plainclothes work and when that happened, I just basically went to carrying the agency guns due to laziness. Well, since then, I've hanged up the badge and have gone to carrying my beater grade 1911s. But I think in the end, this Combat Commander needs to stretch her legs again.    I did some minor changes to her. Replaced the factory OEM plastic MSH with a stainless steel one along with the blackened hex head screws with stainless finished ones too. Also switched out out skeletonized hammer for a traditional Colt OEM ring hammer. Oh, I cut the Houges on the right side to work with the ambidextrous safety. Other than that, she's stock. All in all, I forgot how awesome this gun is and why it is special. I'd never trade it off or sell it. But it just sat in the back of the safe for a bit. Pulling it out this weekend, it reminded me of the pure excitement and joy I felt with the surprise. I still remember being tired that morning and just thinking "hey, that's cool that Dad left me a bite to eat." And how it changed to "HOT DAMN! DAD SURPRISED ME WITH A FREAKING COLT XSE COMBAT COMMANDER!" I remember how my pulse quickened and suddenly having a burst of energy after a long night that usually saps it. I remember wanting to call him up at 7am, but didn't so I wouldn't disturb him. Especially now, looking back, he was battling cancer and didn't tell me. He just kept it to himself and instead, did this to keep me from not worrying. He knew what it was like to work midnight as a cop, he did it himself. So cheered me up with this 1911 and kept the bad news away from me for a while. Luckily, he beat the cancer so he gets to be around today to be an awesome grandfather to my daughter. And I'm going to go back to carrying this 1911 along with enjoying the additional moments I have with him. |
