From the March 9, 1912 shipment to the the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Later became the service pistol of a Lt Cmdr, kept upon retirement.   From October 11, 1918 shipment to Bush Terminal, NY. Would later become the service pistol for one of the first 5 Tuskegee Airmen, kept upon leaving the service as Major.   From October 8, 1991 shipment to Sugarland, TX (serialized Sept 26, 1991. Returned to Colt March 26,1992, later sold to a Colt employee as "used" on October 31, 1992. I believe the only difference between this pistol and the "Enhanced" version is the lack of an undercut trigger guard (and no "E" suffix serial) - all of the other features are the same.  |

Two Colts made 100 years apart. Bottom one has a Remington Rand slide but frame is 1919 Colt. A1 frame scallops were added during a Korean War era USMC rebuild. Attached File |

I had this project on the back burner for several years. Engraving was done by David Wade Harris in Texas. He's one of the very few who actually uses a hammer & chisel instead of the pneumatic gravers. Elephant Ivory Grips, Fire-Blued Screws and gold plating. Told him my budget and left the rest up to him. Scored this Delta Gold Cup in mint condition from an estate sale. I swapped in custom wood grips with the Delta medallions (I already had them) for the factory black rubber grip - but otherwise it came in the box with everything you see here …….. $700.00 OTD. By serial number it’s a 1991 build.    Came with two factory 8-rd mags in the box, and one of them had this bumper pad attached. A Colt-marked Delta pad? Never saw one of those before and I’ve been around Colt Deltas almost since they were introduced.  |
I bought a brand new XS Lightweight Commander when they were first issued, then later sold it with the intention of picking up another later. Years went by and I never saw one.  Then I had a chance to buy an XSE Ltwt Commander and I grabbed it. I sent it to a gunsmith to add a few personal preferences, first an upswept beaver trail, a checkered arched mainspring housing, and 10-8 sights. Final touch was removing the full length guide rod and replacing it with a GI spring, plug and guide rod.
