Sir, we have been pursuing inflationary monetary strategy to keep ahead of our national debt since before the Vietnam War ended, $300 US gets you the very finest in Philippine child labor manufactured .38 snubnoses. It's a copy of a Colt w/ a coil mainspring, and as it was hand assembled, it has a better chance of not going back to the factory than a Smith.

I've carried a J frame of one type or another in NPE's for decades and I jumped on one of the Smith Ultimate Carry 432's when they came out. Mine has been perfect from the box and the sights are a blessing for an old half blind guy. 6 .32 wad cutters and a slow strip in my pocket weigh next to nothing and with the lack of recoil it's so easy to shoot so it gets trotted out every range session for some practice. In a pocket holster in hot weather or a High Noon Tomahawk when I'm just hanging around the house (like today) there is not a more comfortable hand gun to carry that I've tried anyway. I usually carry a Glock but I certainly don't feel unarmed with the little Smith. ETA- One thing I was not crazy about was the large grips so I've ordered a set of these for it,I have those grips on my 442 and find them very comfortable and they make pocket carry easier. Even in the 101, I was done after half a box of practice. And that was w/ the larger Pachmayr grips. In a larger range gun, it might be fun. My theory was I could reload the 101 from my Glock mag, and if I'd sprung for the Charter, I could eject the 2nd cylinder too and load a 3rd cylinder. It took me awhile, but I've finally acknowledged I'm never reloading a revolver in a gun fight - it's very unlikely I'd ever reload in a gun fight at all, given a very slim chance I'll ever find myself in one. |

My first handgun was a J.P. Sauer & Sohn Western Marshal .357 Magnum caliber revolver that I bought at K-Mart many years ago which was surprisingly accurate. As time marched on I developed a real affection for revolvers. My EDC is the Kimber K6S DA/SA which I shoot with on a regular basis at 10 yards. I have semi-automatics to choose from none of which I shoot as well as the Kimber. I have other snub nose revolvers but the Kimber is my favorite.

I just picked up a 1965 Charter Arms Undercover (just like the one my sainted daddy had). It is nearly mint, and it has had a chip knocked out of the wood grip up behind the trigger guard. That's the only flaw in an otherwise perfect specimen. Obsolete? No. Useful? You can bet on it! |

But I get it, the heart wants what the heart wants. I saw one at my local store for around the same price. I was too busy playing with other guns to handle it. And although I like the concept of that front sight, I think it would be more prone to snagging than a ramped sight if coming out of a pocket. But I'm not a pocket carry guy. A member further up in this thread has one. |

Depending on how much you use and practice with them ( a lot of practice is a good idea) some fall apart faster than others. In my experience using them for about 40 years, the bianchi and tuff products are the best, most durable. There are lots of theories on how you can load them. I just load with 6 figuring I will despite practice and experience potentially fumble a round. Some like to load 2 skip a hole then load 3, or even get the longer ones with 7 slots and load 2, skip,load2 skip,load one. Etc. |
