Generally speaking, what is the optimal barrel length for a concealed carry 1911?
Link Posted: 4/20/2019 4:03:43 PM EDT

The barrel isn’t the hard part to conceal, the grip is.

I carry a 5”

I prefer something under 4.25 inches for carry.

I just moved to a Dan Wesson 9mm Vigil, 9+1  I love it.   One of the nicest shooting pistols I think I have ever owned.  And for the quality, price and value, it is hard to beat.   Also available in .45 if that's your truthers.

To be honest there are times a commander would be more comfortable but it's generally doing things like tying my boots. Even driving isn't uncomfortable.

I haven’t found a pistol that is comfortable to conceal. I’ll slide the holstered G43 inside the waist band on occasion but I usually have a shoulder rig for the 1911. Sometimes owb or just owb open carry.
For me slim is key.
1911, G43 or G48.
The little Sig is awesome but the grip just doesn’t do it for me.

Before I switched to my new carry gun I'd been carrying this 5" 1911 (a custom Colt 1991A1) every day for about 10 years.  Like has been said, the issue isn't barrel length, it's the grip.

That CZ is sex....another SACS, my warren tactical in 9MM that I carry off duty now all the time.  With the right holster/belt setup, the 5 inch 1911 carries better than anything.

My dad is from South America. Does that count?

I imagine a 5" being less than comfortable with my 175lb frame.

I found the LW frame to be s better carry option over barrel length. But still prefer 4.25 for CCW.

.75" of slide tends to let the grip flop around more and the muzzle wants to poke into your sciatic nerve if you carry at 3:30-4:00.

I have been carrying a 5" 1911 more than not for almost 20 years now.  The heaviest I've ever been is about 145.

The best 1911 I have carried concealed was a Colt Officer frame with a Colt Commander slide group.

You're crazy. It's the really short barrel 1911s that have consistent cycling issues.

EMPs bring another level of unreliability to the short 1911s.

You can conceal a 5" 1911 just as easy as a shorter one.

I have always carried a 5" 1911, when I carry a 1911.

At any rate a Commander size 1911 is the smallest I'd go with.

"Duty" size pistols are not hard to conceal carry with the right holster.
I use a Comp-Tac C-Tac for the 1911 and the Glock 17.

Under a loose T shirt, polo shirt or tropical/fishing/camp shirt and you are good to go.
