| Wisconsin resident with Wisconsin permit. Traveling to Florida. Looked at the uscca carry map and says carry with restrictions but I can’t find what the restrictions are in the states I have to drive through. Also I am stopping at Disney for a few days with my kids. Disney says no firearms on their property at all not even locked in my vehicle. Can they dictate that? I thought your car was an extension of your home. |

About the only problem area (and it's relatively minimal in practical terms) on your probable route is Illinois, where you're limited to in-car "carry" only, ie, your loaded carry handguns must stay in the vehicle. Figure you'd likely not be stopping there for more than restroom, food or fuel so probably not a big deal. Unless you're planning on transporting some NFA weapons or something. Chicago has a weird ban on laser sights. If you look at each state on handgunlaw.us, it will tell you whether you're required to notify and problem areas like carry at rest stops. Whether they "can" or not, Disney does ban carry on most of their properties and in another thread I think it was mentioned that they are using firearm detection technology to try to enforce that. |

Every time I’ve looked up “restrictions,” it’s been a reference to a state only recognizing another state’s license if the holder is a resident of that state. E.g. since Florida gives licenses to out of state residents, some states will only recognize a Florida license if you’re also a Florida resident (i.e. have a Florida driver’s license and address). Yes, Disney uses scanners at all pedestrian entrances, and security personnel pull people aside for secondary screen if they detect anything anomalous. It seemed pretty efficient, based on my one visit there. They don’t screen vehicles, so that’s up to you. |

I thought your car was an extension of your home. In regards to this specifically, Disney is a private business and can restrict it on their property regardless of in your vehicle or not. They’d have to obviously know it’s in your vehicle, but if they were to find out, they can have you removed. You wouldn’t be cited for having a firearm in your vehicle necessarily (although some states there are laws regarding this so look em up), but they’d get you on trespass. The way trespass on private property works is they can ask you to leave for any reason so they can in theory say they don’t like your gun bumper stickers and ask you to leave. If you don’t, then police get involved and will ask you to leave, then criminally trespass you (CT) if you don’t. Sometimes you’ll get a cop who wants to get out of something else or having a bad day and just go straight to arrest since you’ve already been asked to leave (trespass after warning) but generally you’re given a warning from the owner or representative from the property, the police (usually per policy no matter how many times the owner asked, unless you’re doing something else like distributing peace, disorderly conduct, etc… most police policies require the officer to ask and give reasonable opportunity to leave before doing a CT), and if you don’t leave then cited. But again, you won’t be cited for the gun necessarily, but trespass. Now if you’re not on Disney property parking, than they can kick rocks. |
