I have a black nitrided pistol barrel… As I understand it, the actual melonite/nitride is a case hardening that goes down into the metal some thickness and the black surface is just a thin surface oxide color treatment to make it black. Can I remove the black color layer by either manually polishing or using some kind of oxide/rust remover… And then send the barrel out for gold TiN? This is purely for cosmetic reasons.  |
