Purchased this Colt Detective .38spl yesterday. No box or papers. Almost perfect though. No scratches, dings etc. Shot very little if any since 1966. From research this is a 2nd Generation Detective (1947-1972). Was made in 1966. From 1966-1969 the Detective used a hollow rivet hole in hammer to secure firing pin. I guess Colt DS collectors frown upon it yet S&W made millions. Colt before and after those years used a solid pin then polished side of hammer that was barely detectable. Also it has a short square butt with longer grips. Not sure dates for this. I assume I'll put some standard .38spl down range eventually. Just another revolver I always admired. My first Colt handgun in many years.

They are very nice CCW revolvers and surprisingly hard to find in really nice condition.

The Colt grips are kind of meh if shooting but there are some really nice aftermarket designs.

Very nice snub nose.  It looks like the piece Michael used to kill the cop and mob guy in the restaurant.  Just add Gafers tape.

That was a S&W "J" frame, with, oddly, 1960's S&W Target grips, covered in tape.
