Took my new DS 9 to the range last night. When I first got it, I cleaned and lubed it, and mounted a Fastfire enclosed emitter optic. Of the first two magazines, I got something like a 3-point jam on the 4th or 5th round of each mag. After than, it ran great until the last couple of magazines. (I fired 200 rounds fairly quickly, so it was pretty warm.) Those last couple of magazines, the first round wouldn't chamber unless I tapped the back of the slide firmly, then I got a couple more of the 3-point jams. The type of malfunctions could be caused by extractor tension issue. If the clearance on the extractor hook to the breach face is too tight the cartridge doesn’t slide up under the extractor smoothly during feeding. I’ve seen feed stoppages similar to what you described and after tuning the extractor the 1911 feeds 100%. There are youtube videos on how to tune/adjust 1911 extractor tension. |

Props to you guys. The extractor was so tight that I had to pry the hook back with a screwdriver blade with one hand before I could grab a punch and push it out of the slide with the other hand, all while holding the slide with my third hand. Yes, that is three hands. It's set now where it holds an empty cartridge without letting it fall. I dry-cycled two full magazines and it seemed to work fine. And I ordered a different optic because I feel like this Fastfire is just way too bulky. It'll be here on Tuesday, so the soonest I can get back to the range will be Wednesday. |

Brief update. Man, this thing is really ticking me off. Took it to the range after adjusting the extractor, and FTE after FTE. It will hold an empty shell, so I thought i had done it right. I took it apart right there at the bench, and tightened the extractor up a bit - it's still FTE every round. What do you reckon an actual gunsmith would charge me to fit a new extractor, and what's a good one to buy? |

I would recommend buying a EGW extractor or a wilson bullet proof and doing the same exercise. I've done three tisas this way and I'm about to do a fourth. The factory extractor could probably be tuned with a file but buying a wilson or EGW will save you a headache. Alternately, I believe tisas would fix it if you were willing to send it back in. |

In my DS9 5 inch, I bought a Wilson spring kit and replaced all of the springs. I did change the recoil spring to a 12lb one instead of the 10lb one that comes with the kit. I also followed the instructions that Brownell's has posted in their Bench Talk series. 1911 Auto Extractor Adjustment And since I have a few 1911 based pistoles, I did pick up the Weigand tool for tuning the extractor and a Brownell's stone. No failures of any kind except muscle fatigue from holding that boat anchor out at arms length for an hour. I could literally feel the heat coming off the barrel, slide, and frame. I fired a variety of single shots in slow fire, quick-ish doubles, and triples, and zero failures to feed or extract. Because of the weight, this is the softest-shooting 9mm I own, and it's far more accurate than I can make use of. Thanks for the advice, everyone. Glad you got that issue resolved and the gun runs reliably and accurately. Tisas 1911 format guns are definitely not "crap" guns, I think they're actually very well made. I think it's mainly the final assembly and test processes that aren't the same as what the custom builders do on their guns. The springs they use may not be top notch but that's easy enough to fix. |

I just put the Wilson Bulletproof extractor and sear springs in all my budget 1911s now. Saves a lot of time. |
