Well, unfortunately....my brand new Prodigy had issues right out of the box. Cleaned it, lubed it, and tried to run some rounds through it. Every single round fired resulted in the following round not going all the way into battery. Bang....reach up with my thumb and push it into battery. Bang...reach up with my thumb and push it into battery.....rinse and repeat. After 4 mags of that, I was done. Pulled the gun apart.... checked the chamber, a new round falls right in. Then I checked the extractor....the thing was soo tight, it was hard to even push a round in to get the claw to grap it. That's what was happening.....when the slide would come forward, and the round would get pushed up into the extractor, it was so tight....it would stop the slide and prevent it from going into battery. So after I had to pry the extractor out of the slide, I bend it back to take a ton of pressure out of it. Got it set right where I can easily push a round into it, and when I turn the slide over and shake it...the round doesn't fall out. Put it all back together.....and now it runs 100%. Not a huge deal....but for a $1000+ gun, and the fact that Springfield usually has a good reputation, I was a little let down. Don't they test fire the guns before they send them out? The person who installed that extractor must have had to hammer it in....it had so much bow in it I couldn't even push it into the slide by hand. Anyone else ever have an issue like that with their Prodigy?? Oh well.....it's running good now.

| Im picking up one just like it when ups drops it here in a few hours. I really hope it runs out of the box. Bought a brand new colt and it did just like yours. I tweaked on the extractor and its about 95% ok. When I spend over a grand on a pistol it should be gtg 100% |

Makes me wonder who Springfield has building these things.......I guess it's just like every other company today.....good help is hard to find. Apparently they don't test fire them before they ship them. You would think that they would do that....guess not. Probably not going to ever buy another 1911 type gun from Springfield again...just because. |

I got it fixed...but I guess I could email them and see if they would send me a new extractor...just because. I'm definitely not shipping the gun back them them...not worth the hassle. But if they want to send me a new extractor...sure, I can keep it as a spare. I guess test firing guns before they ship them out isn't a thing anymore?

Ran a few hundred rounds through this Prodigy tonight........ran like a sewing machine! Too bad Springfield doesn't put a little more time into getting the extractor set correctly.....such a small thing can make or break these guns. Not a single stoppage.....now I'm happy with it

| I took mine to the range saturday. Runs like a top. shoots better than i do. Im happy with mine. My local gunsmith still hasnt finished my Colt jam o matic. Pretty much same situation as op prodigy. Extractor too tight. Bent on it a bit. It went from a jam every couple rounds to every other mag. Trigger feels like it catches. If it comes back with no jams and a trigger as good as the prodigy i will be happy. |

I was wondering why PSA changed the pictures recently on the 5inch model, the new pics are darker than the original pics. Picked up mine this afternoon and it's darker than I expected from the original pics they had. |

| Springfield's normal rep doesn't apply to the Prodigy for some reason. If taken in aggregate the Prodigy seems to have more problem pistols than pistols that just work, and of those not all will keep working. It's apparently still one of those "It's great if you replace X, Y, and Z" type pistols. |
| Mine has been a single shot as well for the most part. It doesn't goes all the way into battery. Lubed it, racked the slide a hundred or so times, and still haven't been able to get through 10 rounds straight. I think it's probably the common issue of cerekote too thick. I also noticed it wouldn't feed 147gr flat nose ammo. |

It's apparently still one of those "It's great if you replace X, Y, and Z" type pistols. i think this is more of a 2011 platform issue than a Springfield issue. i think the prodigy did not have the cleanest launch a few years back but today, and a lot of what we see posted today is carried forward from that period. I honestly see less threads on prodigy issues than some of the higher end options. I have around 12k rounds on mine and it was built up over time, never had any issues with it. |

Have you given Springfield a call, they are very responsive, and the last time, i called the for a fiber optic insert, the had a free pack in the mail that afternoon. |

I also noticed it wouldn't feed 147gr flat nose ammo. Get some lapping compund. Amazon sells a 500/800/1200 grit kit in little tubes. Strip it ALL the way down to a bare frame and slide. Place some on the rails, kick back, watch a movie and rack the slide over and over. Clean and repeat as you see fit. I did this to both my Prodigy's and both had high spots on the frame and slide rails where the cerakote was thicker. Both are smooth as butter now and shoot very nice. Should you have to do this to get a gun to work OOB, no... but I have also never met a 1911 / 2011 that I didnt have to massage a little to get it to run 100% all of the time. |
