Just found out my uncle is passing along a few of my grandfathers handguns. I plan on cleaning this up with some CLP, steel wool, and gentle elbow grease. Unsure if the pearl grips are original or previous correct. One grip panel is missing the grip screw bushing. I’ll probably find a unique set of grips for it as a replacement. Any grip recommendations? I plan on shooting it and maybe carrying it once it’s been vetted. Attached File |

Nice. I have no experience cleaning up old firearms except for my M1A1 carbine but there was only grime, no pitting. Thinking about steel wool on your family heirloom gives me a bit of a chill. Just doesn't sound right. Maybe that is what you need but I have no idea. Others will chime in for sure. I would replace the bushing with as close as you can get to original and leave the original grips on there. Don't know if original but I would not be surprised if they are. Pic seems to show some aging to the color. |

Didn't realize the grip was broken. Looks original but not sure if they came that way. I would have new ones made out of mop. |

Replacement grips and recoil/striker springs done. Took it out and it’s FTEject about 50% of the time. Not sure if it’s the new recoil spring being stout or if it needs a new extractor spring. Ran out of ammo to troubleshoot more (for now). Attached File |
