For me ( Arizona where shorts and t shirts are the typical wardrobe for 9+ months of the year ) a J frame in a pocket holster is my best bet, and in fact how I carry the most. I am on vacation right now, but in Europe where carrying any sort of weapon would be practically impossible- I was even leery of bringing a Swiss Army knife! I did do that and it has come in handy. Actually tripping over to Switzerland today, where I don’t think they will mind I am carrying one of the items most synonymous with the country. Is reassuring though, that I have seen good on the ground police presence both vehicles and beat cops in the area, and my hotel is right around the corner from an Italian Carabineri station. |

Why would being somewhere else change your carry? What pistol are you competent with that satisfies your criteria of size, weight, capacity, action, caliber, concealability, and comfort? The state you’re in doesn’t change that IMO. I used to carry a P229 because it met my requirements. I tried several polymer framed strikers and finally settled on the P320 CA to replace the P229. It was lighter and had more capacity in about the same size, plus I was faster to the first shot. Then back pain dictated a switch to pocket carry. So I had to balance capacity for size and comfort. The P365 suited that well and is now the carry pistol. That doesn’t change based on location or situation. I carry any of them in the dead of winter or a 90 degree day at the zoo. Didn’t matter if I was in MI or visiting family out of state. In other words, I find your poll odd and question your premise. |

G23 in a fanny pack. I'm at the beach in TX, carrying a G19 in a fanny pack with a couple extra mags. Fanny packs are common at the beach. Plus, it doesn't matter what your wearing. Pick it up and go. Enjoy your vacation. ETA, with a fanny pack you can carry on the beach, and I do. Never without a gun. |

May not be a cool guy gun or have the capability of a 23 or colt defender, but my vacation gun is still my J frame or ruger LCPII or usually both. I wear those loose board shorts type swim trunks that have a pocket adequate for the LCPII with which I use Aholster pocket kydex. Never without a gun even poolside or at the beach. And yes I will jump in the water with the gun on. Get back to the room, shake the water out hit it with a hair dryer for a few minutes, good to go. |
