| I’ve been looking at the best way to have quick access to my pistol while driving. MD has a vaguely worded law about concealing your handgun while carrying, so I’m not sure that console carry is legal or not. Looking at chest rigs but I dunno. What do you guys do? |

It’s either on me appendix, or in a Viktos backpack within easy reach and usually with the pocket unzipped, or I have to leave it in my console when I’m in a customer facility. I hate that last part, but I don’t have a choice sometimes. It’s that or leave it at home, and that’s not happening. I’m usually parked in a secure facility. |

A car’s console is a really poor holster. Just behind my strong-side hip, whether I’m in my car or not. Practice drawing with your seat belt on.. |

From a practical standpoint, the best way is the same way you carry. It's another one of the many benefits to AIWB. As to legality, that should've been covered in your CCW class. Regardless, off body carry is dumb, and moving you gun from your person to a different holster every time you get in and out of your car is also dumb. |

My different states/ jurisdictions can affect how you can carry. In SC until 1996, it had to be out of the reach of the driver in a closed glove box or console and never under the seat. With shall issue CCW, then on the person concealed. In August 2021, with open carry added, on the person. Now with no permit carry, anywhere in the vehicle is okay. I still keep mine on the hip. |

..For fast access usually. Depends upon the hood. Minimum in the vehicle is usually.. 1911a1 w/ 3 full mags and always at my ready. If I have to venture into some of these local 'war' zones, then I might bring the Chicom chopper (7.62) w/ green circle dot. It all depends on the hood here locally.. but, normally I never worry about it. (Thank you Martial Arts) |

Interesting situation today. Found myself with two guns because wife and I were going to stop at walmart. She wasn't going in so I was going to leave the Echelon with her and take the P365 IWB. Well, we didn't go there and she went in the grocery store riding the handicap cart (knee replacement). I left the P365 in the glove box. Thinking about it later, I should have let her put it in her small purse. I could have put the P365 on the weak side IWB with the Echelon OWB on the strong side. That would have been too many personal effects with cell phone and spare mag carrier also on the weak side. I don't like leaving firearms locked in the vehicle, but she didn't want the gun with her. No permit needed here although she has one. |
| Normally if strong side carrying it stays there. However, if only pocket carrying and driving for any distance over 3 miles, then I remove from pocket and slide 442 between my drivers seat and bench seat (no center consule). Its holds it securely. |

I can easily carry a full-size 9mm in the center console, nothing else goes in with it of course. It sits oriented muzzle-down, grip up and can't fall or change orientation from this position. It is much simpler and faster to open the latch of the center console and grab my handgun, I don't need to worry about my seat-belt, shirt, or the angle that I'm sitting. Your life/work situation isn't going to be the same as everyone else, do what works for you as logically and safely as you can. If you park in a high-crime area, perhaps rethink your strategy. Look into vehicle-safes or fitting a locking center console for when not driving/away from your ride... The usual rhetoric is "just carry everywhere, concealed means concealed" . But some of us work jobs or go places that are less than optimal for carrying... Good luck |
