I have a few handguns and I have recently become very fond of a 9mm lightweight commander 1911. I love the single action trigger, and the gun is relatively light, slim, has light recoil and has been very accurate. Even though I haven't shot it much it has been very reliable so far, I feel I'd need another 300 or 400 rounds through it for me to really trust it for serious carry. Compared to most modern polymer offerings that hold 15+ rounds, the standard mags for this only hold 9 rounds, which is a slight handicap.
But, should SHTF, I don't think it'd be the one I'd go for. That honor goes to one of my gen 5 Glock 17's, I won't go into it's attributes, but if things were to get crazy there's no question I bring the G17 along without much thought. I wouldn't call the G17 or any Glock my favorite, mostly because of the triggers, they're horrendous when compared to a nice 1911 trigger, but I have to remind myself it's a combat trigger, not a match trigger. Was just curious if your favorite handgun was also your SHTF handgun. |

I used to have a 1911 as my bedside gun and my carry guns were Glocks. I realized that was probably a bad idea as I’d want the manual of arms to be the same for any gun I might use in a high stress environment. Switched to all Glocks now. I’m not saying Glocks are the best or what you should get, but I think you should stick to one style/brand of gun so that you can have familiarity in any situation.

Yes. Its a G47.
In all honesty handguns are a means to an end for me. I like rifles better. |

No, my favorite guns are my old revolvers and 1911’s. Carry and SHTF always Glock.

No.... but close enough. I don't know if I have a favorite pistol, but I like the M&P series. Several flavors but I'd probably take the 4.25 inch 2.0 as my SHTF.
As opposed to the 4-inch, .40 or the 10mm. |

SHTF, I'm pretty sure my P30 would edge out my G19 Gen.5.

Yep. G49 with a Holosun SCS.

Considering nobody knows where/when/how the proverbial S will HTF,(if we did, we would plan differently!), your carry gun has a very good chance of becoming your SHTF gun whether you like it or not. I trust my P-10S with my life right now, and I think it will do just fine if I employ it correctly whether during an attempted mugging or trying to make it home through a post apocalyptic wasteland.

I only own G19s and I always have one with me so, yes it will be my SHTF sidearm.

I have several handguns, primarily Berettas, Glocks, and SIGs. My EDC is a SIG P229 LEGION RXP, but my SHTF handgun is a trusty old Beretta 92FS.

I imagine if SHTF your SHTF handgun is going to be what is on you at the moment. My carry pistols are not my favorite pistol so to be honest as long as it is one of the pistols I own I should be happy but my favorite pistol I doubt I would want it to be my sidearm. I would be more concerned with ammo quantity than particular pistol I have.

I don't know that I have a "favorite" handgun. The ones I spend the most time are range toys.
Unless I am attacked by a horde of Zombie squirrels, I doubt a tricked out Ruger Mark IV would do me much good during SHTF. TBH I don't even like shooting my plain Jane Glock carry gun. I shoot it enough to be proficient and then go back to tinkering with something fun. |

Yes. I mostly carry a 365x with a dot and sometimes a light, 14 rounds, easy to carry, etc. But I hate it. I don't enjoy shooting it. I like 1911s. I have one that's amazingly sentimental. It's the one on my SHTF belt. It's heavy, low capacity, but considering handguns will be last ditch weapons at that point, if I'm going to die with one in my hand I want it to be that one.
Ivory grips, gold bead front sight, slinging half inch dum dums. Granted this means my rifle and back up rifle are empty, but still. |

My favorite handgun is my MK23. And If I could only have one handgun to do it all for the rest of my life the MK23 would be the one. I can (and sometimes do) carry it concealed and I’ve killed pigs and a deer with it. But I’m usually carrying a G22/G23 or HK45c/ USPc45. Any of them would do in any realistic SHTF scenario.

I really love my CZ-P09.
19rd capacity, accurate, rail for a light, reliable, and big. It would be my go-to pistol for SHTF. |

For SHTF I would probably go with my Beretta APX

No. My favorite handgun is my Smolt.

Sounds like there’s a general consensus emerging that “favorite” guns are 1911s and revolvers for range toys but for SHTF and real-world drama it’s more like a Glock 19 on the hip, plus extra mags. Hmmmm …

Currently have a Dagger with tritium night sights and a weapon light as my night stand gun.
But pulled my Glock 19 Gen 5 with red dot out of the cabinet recently to lube and clean, and think I will replace the Dagger with the Glock. I could buy an RMR slide cut for optics for the Dagger, but that Glock 19 sure felt just right in my hand. Neither pistol has ever failed me. It's nice to have options!!! Added: the Dagger or Glock 19 would be a means to get to my 12 ga. pump action shotgun. |

Hk usp compact is both for me. I just ordered a staccato, something I've wanted for a while. I doubt it will be as reliable but it might take the spot of favorite.

My favorite pistol is one thing but for a end all situation, I would prefer a larger framed gun for quicker shots and more capacity. If concealment is not an issue, I think that changes the game for anyone.

And you can drop a tac light and 17 round magazine in it for the same capability as a full size gun if your aren't concealing... Assuming you have an RMR I'm not so sure the 17 gives you any advantages over a 19. Unless you just have big hands and the 19 is too small for your hands. |

No.
My favorite handgun is a Kimber Compact CDP. Running a very, very close second is a Ruger Speed Six I helped my Mom pick out in the early '80s and inherited when she passed in '13. But my SHTF handgun would be my Glock 19.5 or one of its Gen 3 clones. <------ I have enough rounds through them all to be 100% confident in their function. Bonus that the 19.5 and clones (actually the clones more, then the 19.5) are also my carry guns 95% of the time. |

No. My favorite gun to shoot is my shadow 2 that instead of buying internal parts for (with the exception of springs) I worked everything over myself, most notably the sear/hammer engagement.
My daily carry in the summer time is a Glock 43x and in winter is a cz p07. But given time to prepare in shtf, my belt stays set up for my p320 with x full small frame, agency arms internals and trigger and a comp that I made myself, as well as a red dot |
|
|
No. I compete with Shadow 2s.
I carry either a 19 or a 34. |

I disagree with the "pick one style stay with it so you won't have to worry about the manual of arms in a high stress situation". What happens when your one style is unavailable for whatever reason, and you are not familiar with what is at hand?
My favorite carry is a Sig P229 Legion SAO because the manual of arms is like my absolute favorite, the 1911. I have Berettas, CZs, Glocks and Glock clones, revolvers, etc., and I would have no problems with familiarity should I find myself with only one of them in the dark. There would be no fumbling with the differences in how they handle, and I know where all of them hit at various distances out to 25 yards, some out to 100. The P229 Legion is a superior pistol for me and very accurate. It is by far the easiest to shoot and hit the target. And to be clear, around the house, it is only a way to help me get to my rifle or shotgun. In public, it is the primary means to defend my family and myself. |

yes.
But then I pretty much stick to all glocks in my collection of handguns anyway.. |
|
Dont call it a comeback, Been here for years.
|
1911s are probably my favorite shooters; but for SHTF I'd probably grab my SP-01, or P-01 if it needed to be concealed
|
|

Glock 17 for real emergency's. Or Glock 43X. 1911 for a range toy.

G19 for the SHTF handgun. With a couple of 33 rd ghetto mags available.

The first few days after Katrina, I was carrying my Rock River LAR-15 everywhere I went. I quickly found that I needed both hands to do a lot of stuff and it got in the way, after that, and except for nighttime anti-looter patrols, I just carried my pistol, (a Glock 22, back then). One of the few times in my life I open carried a handgun, mainly because it was so hot, and I was sweating so much, I didn't want to carry it in the IWB holster, under my shirt like I usually did. Plus, people were open carrying all over the place so that didn't stick out at all, but the rifle got me a lot of looks when I had it slung. |

Tough question, but I think yes. My favorite, or atleast of my favorites, is my P365 X-Macro. It is my EDC and at this point it probably would be my go-to for SHTF.

Hard to say what's my "favorite."
They made me give back the one that probably saved my life. So I found one at a gun show just like it. A little more beat-up than the one I had to give back, but I trust it 100%. But then I might be in a striker fired mood and my highly modified P10C could be my favorite. Sometimes it might be a new gun like my new Sig P320 or my new Beretta 92FS. Or maybe an old C&R like my East German Makarov or my Star B. Maybe I'm in a sentimental mood about my very first centerfire handgun, my trusty CZ-75B. I have a fondness for them all. I'm sure if bad s&%t went down and a gun in hand saves my life, that particular gun, whatever it may be, will definitely have earned top honors in my heart. |
