I have enough time behind a pistol with a dot sight to be comfortable carrying one now, but I only have some budget models so far (Osight, Sig, Holosun, CT). I am browsing for a deal on a better one, $500-$600 for a PA or Trijicon is a big bite. I found a deal on cop trade-in DPPs. My overall experience with Leupold (scopes), has been great, but those aren't electronic. Also, I didn't get them pre-used. My experience with cop trade in guns is that there's a small percentage that are beat to shit, but most are lightly used and have most of the wear on the outside. I've never bought a cop-used optic. So, the questions: Is it a good sight on its own? Is it rugged? What would you compare it to quality-wise? What is the life expectancy on one of these, and are they still warrantied? Would you pass on it because it's a cop trade-in? There is a chance that I get one that was issued to Tackleberry and has a million rounds worth of use.  For those of you who might say, "Save your money and get an RMR." I hear you. I am considering that, too. I am currently still carrying a gun with irons. I know I can shoot better with a RDS, but if I haven't got a durable one, I don't want to stake my life on secondhand Chinese shit. |

I mean, leupold doesn’t normally turn out crap, but I haven’t shot through one, so no first hand experience. It depends on the discount, for me. Are we talking 25% of new or 75% of new? If the latter, I’m just going new. Also, a lot of us are and have been carrying Holosun “Chinese crap” for years and never had a problem. This isn’t the early 2000’s anymore and sadly, the Chinese have gotten pretty good at them. |

My buddy has one on (gasp) a P320 with a lot of rounds through it. Works fine. I don’t like how tall the base is though if we’re comparing to the RMR. As to being a trade in, as far as I know Leupold doesn’t care. I just bought a Mk4 CQT and asked them if they could strip and anodize it again, clearly disclosing it was a trade. They said no but they’d be happy to tear it apart and make sure everything on it is good to go if it has any function issues. |

Maybe this is an earlier or less desirable one. That's a good discount, but it may not be worth the risk to save $100. I only have one Holosun. It works, but I haven't had it long or used it much. You can see that I also have pleanty cheap Chinese crap. Yes, a lot of it works well. It bugs me, because I'd rather buy stuff made in civilized countries, but it's not in the budget. I have something like 5 red-dot sights now, and the money I spent on all of them combined would have bought me one Trijicon or HTX-1. Add to that, that since starting down this road, I've had to buy different guns just to be able to mount some, and I'll have to send one of my carry guns off to be milled if I want to carry one with a dot. I do have an optic cut Dagger slide, but I'm also not ready to stake my life on that cheap American crap just yet.

I had a DPP on a Gen5 19. I loved it. I switched to the Holosun SCS MOS when it came out, though. Now that I am all-in with the Gen 6 models, and since Holosun doesn't make an SCS for it yet (if they even do), I am seriously considering returning to the DPP. It was a bitch to re-train from the big ass DPP to the very low-profile SCS, but I did miss that big old Freightliner-sized window that was clear as a bell. Aaron Cowan torture tested it. It DID break the glass, but it still somehow worked on the little remaining glass that was left. And he dropped it from his usual height unprotected onto concrete I think, which we all know is overkill. |

Just after Christmas, I got an email with a return tracking number and they send me a brand new 507C X2. So nice upgrade for me! Easy peasy and very quick turnaround. Good CS experience. |
I have just the one Holosun, and I have not had any problems with it. I just haven't used it a lot. I like to use something a fair bit before I trust it. I guess that one could go on the carry gun. On one hand, I am pleased there is something affordable that works well. On the other hand: Chyna.  Another reason I'm deliberating too much is that I have to get a couple slides milled. | Ive had pretty good experiences with. My Vortex Defender CCW enclosed and the non enclosed version. I dont beat them up though theyre micro compact red dots I dont beat on those type of guns. I think for a G19 You'd want the regular defender not the CCW model. As said by other Holosuns are generally good to go, EPS models and 4/507 models. |

| I carried a DDP for two years and know the ins and outs. Great sight height for tracking your dot from recoil. Your BUIS will also be tall, like a sail. Like the top loaded battery. Don't like the button layout and having to push through the cycle to get what you want if you move indoors and outdoors. Must get a metal shroud to protect it. No rear sight unless you get the OEM or the one that fits in the slot. Sold and went to RMR, which is tougher, but hate that I have to rezero for annual battery swaps. COA solved a lot of issues. For $199, get the Vortex Defender enclosed. I also have an open emitter prior version that works without issue. Love their warranty. |
