Does anyone here prefer the PP series pistols? The Manhurin (French) pistols have a reputation for both accuracy and reliability. I recently bought one at a premium price ($799.00 + transfer), but at 98% it was worth it.

Is there anyone else in this boat?

I never really fell into the "Bond, James Bond" line of baloney. I appreciate how the all-steel frame soaks up what recoil is generated by the European-spec loads. The accuracy is phenomenal and it will do the job with proper shot placement.

First use of my C&R license back in the '90s was Manurhin PP. Cost me all of $200 back then. Much prefer the 7.65 versions to the .380, and still have it.

I love the brown grips. Such wonderful pistols. I don't care what others may say, or think. The original 7.65mm Browning PP loaded with full-tilt Fiocchi ammunition will perform as well, or better than the 9mm Browning.

I enjoy shooting my 7.65 PP.  In contrast, my Dad’s .380 PPK/S sits in its box as a safe queen because it’s nasty to shoot.

.32PP is best PP!  They are seriously good shooters.

My carry piece ( bottom ) and my backup piece top.

Mine is accurate and reliable.
But it’s a big .32, so hard to get interested in carrying it.

It disappears in a IWB holster and does not print at all because it is so thin. Plus, the slightly longer barrel gives you a bit more oomph on the .32ACP. Oh well, to each their own.

I bought a couple when they were being surplused by European police departments. Both of mine came from Justice Wein in Vienna Austria.

----

Ballistics wise the .32 ACP / 7.65 Browning is under rated and suffers from our bias toward 9mm or larger.

In 10 percent ballistic gel a 75 gr flat nose at 765 fps will penetrate 27".

The Hornady 60 gr XTP will penetrate 11.5" to 12" as long as it is launched at at 1000 FPS or a bit more.

Expansion and penetration of the 60 gr XTP in 765 are on par with the 90 gr XTP in the 9mm Kurz launched at a similar 1000-1050 fps.  The holes are a little smaller with 7.65 Browning but it holds one more in the magazine and the PP is very sweet and very fast shooting in 7.65 Browning.  It will get them on target with excellent accuracy much faster than a PP in .380 ACP.

It's not organic 10 percent ballistic gel.  Never claimed it was.  It is however calibrated 10 percent ballistic gel.
So its a distinction without a difference.  If you've ever worked with the organic gel, you fully realize why the modern non organic gel is so popular, and why you almost never see organic gel used anymore.

I am a fan of them especially in the caliber but not a big fan of the prices they get now.

.32 ACP is the correct caliber for the gun.
The only hyphenated names I like are cartridge names......30-06, 30-40, 38-55 etc.

Calibrated by who and when?   (prior to shipping or at the time of use?)

It's my understanding that supposedly calibrated clear ballistic gel that people receive produces inaccurate penetration & expansion results that deviate significantly from real ballistic gelatin.

Unless this issue has been resolved since I last looked into it.

I got these two back when I had my C&R license. There was an importer in CA that was advertising in Shotgun News. I think they got a big batch of German police surplus guns.  I called (no web site) and ordered one chambered  in 22LR and one chambered in 32ACP. I also bought a bunch of mags with them.  They are identical as far as I can tell except for the caliber and grip color. Both are very accurate shooters.

Well when you done it instead of just heard about it, and have an actual understanding of it based on actual experience we'll talk some more about it.

Just picked up a 32 PP this weekend.  Kind of a a whim, I already have a Walther but the Manurhin was very nice and priced right.

French proof marks on the right side, German on the left.   The Walther is just the opposite.  The Manurhin is a 64-ish, I date the Walther to 1972 so it began life in France.

Had one for a while. Other than a heavy gritty DA trigger, great reliable shooters.
Mine was a German police surplus gun when they were transitioning to more modern guns. It was originally owned by a good friend of mine, who moved from a military base in GA back to NY without realizing possession of a handgun without a NY permit was illegal. We did some orchestrating to get the gun “ on paper” for legality and I was the caretaker until he obtained a handgun permit and I transferred it back to him.

Big surprise! The pistols (both PP & PPK were initially built around the 7.65mm Browning cartridge in their "European" level loads).

Who would have thunk it?
