Yep, bought off GunBroker.  There was one that came up a few months ago, but I got outbidded on that one.  Surprisingly enough, I was the only bidder for this one.

Learned something new today, I never knew that the Cougar was offered in .357 Sig.  Post-It attached to one of my monitors, I'll keep an eye out for you.  Maybe two sets of eyes can find you one.

The Cougar came in .40S&W, 9mm, .357 Sig and .45ACP. They also came in standard size and compact. I have a standard size in .40S&W (8040F)...very nice, soft shooter. Kind of bulky like the 92, but not a big deal. I am looking for a 9mm complete slide assembly so I can shoot 9mm out of mine, but the closest thing I've been able to find is a 9mm DAO assembly. Does anyone know if my DA/SA/Decock frame will work with a DAO slide? If it does, it would make for an odd combination with no safety.

This is my 3rd one, I am a fan

Trigger blows new, improves greatly with use. Very slim, light, easy to carry pistol. For $180 after I get my rebate check, and I got my first two, no reason to think I won't get this one, hell of a value.

NC State Highway Patrol issued them around 20 years ago.

S&W 357 revolver
Beretta 92
Beretta 96
Beretta 8357
SIG 229 (DAK IIRC)
S&W 357sig M&P

I don't know if they're still using the M&P at this time.

Picked this up this week. It had been sitting in the case at my local hardware store gun counter since it came in back in March. The price dropped a couple times and then had a clearance sticker on it for $649. When they brought the box out, they discovered it was the "gear up" sku with the pistol bag and 3 extra mags. I couldn't resist.

I think the barrel/action on the Beretta 8357 is the same as on their newer PX4 pistols.

Highway Patrolman?

Nope. It's the precursor to the S&W Model 20.

The Highway Patrolman, or the S&W Model 28, is an N-frame chambered in .357 MAG with some cost-cutting measures applied, such as a different finish from other N-frame models.

The .38/44 HD (pre-WW2) became the .38/44 HD Transitional after WW2, then the .38/44 HD Model of 1950 and then the Model 20 once S&W went to using numbers for models. It's an N-frame chambered in .38 Special.

There was a Swiss-made 225 on GB that sold within the last few days. First one I'd ever seen like that with the heel mag release. Very tempting.

The P6 was indeed a single stack. It was the Police version of the P225 and had a few differences that distinguish it from the 225. Off the top of my head, the mainspring was -I believe- 24lb, much heavier than the 225. Secondly, the unusual hammer with the cutout to indicate if the gun had been dropped on the hammer and possibly damaged. It was an easy visual mark if the spur was either bent or broken. Finally, the feed ramp profile is different, up to a certain year, because the P6s were only intended to use FMJ. So, those with the FMJ barrels may have difficulty chambering hollow points.
The "P" designation was the adoption code used by the Germany to indicate formal adoption by either military or police, if my memory serves me right. It numerically followed the Walther P5 and preceded the HK P7. The post-war version of the P-38 started it all as the P1.

The P6 and P225 use the same magazines, which are incredibly expensive (~ $75) for some reason. The newer version of the P225, the A or A1 (same thing), uses a newly-designed, non-interchangeable magazine that is much more reasonable in cost (~$35).

I've wanted the P225 since seeing them in Germany in the late 80s, but I had other priorities, plus I could never decide between getting either the P6 or P225.

The 225, will join his Sig brothers, as I mentioned (I'll take an updated family pic after it comes in and I've fondled it for a while )...
