Well, as an XD fan, I can say that I'm actually excited!

It looks like they took some of the best features of the XD Mod. 2 and XDM Elite, as well as adding a slide wing like on the Echelon. $325 MSRP, takes XD mags, and is optics ready, this is awesome.

My frosted side wants to rush out and buy one.
My whole grain side is waiting for gear up.
Despite not needing mags or a shitty case.

Does it have the echelon style RDS mount?

Lacks grip zone but has “mod” in the name so the larpers will still be attracted.

Man, I’m so glad I bought several piles of those $9.99 and $12.99 bulk packaged factory XD9 mags from Joe Bob’s and PSA.

ETA:

Under $300 street price means I’ll probably snag a couple of them either for range day loaners or to pass along to my kids.

It looks like SA is trying to go after some of the PSA Dagger market.

Well I just ordered 2 for $265 each plus $34 shipping and no tax.  I have been waiting for the standard XD to hit $299 to pick 1 or 2 up for stashing around. Already have a bunch of mags. I guess this works out.

Sure, but no optics compatibility and a very dated frame made it a hard sell against a Dagger that offered those features plus various frame/slide color combos and mag/parts compatibility with the most common handgun platform around.

At least now an ‘updated’ look with a factory flat trigger, decently priced mags and optics cut from the factory make it a more compelling option for those in that price point.

Just did a quick search, and it looks like the full size XD defender still sells for more than this (from dealers who have it in stock).

Fuck yes!!, Will definitely be adding this to the group of XD/m's I own.

Can use my pile of 16 round magazines I have for my SC that I never picked up the sleeves for.

I expect this release to be as reliable, accurate as previous models.

I've got P80's and Daggers that while I enjoy, their still not as good as my XDm's. My Shield 1.0 milled slide and Plus frame is great but can't add a real light option to it, so have been thinking about another option something that size.

That is a great deal for a solid pistol. They are tough guns and get/got a bad rep for the stupid marketing "grip zone" idea. At that price, it is hard to look away.

I don't even dislike the "grip zone" naming of the texture. I never thought of it as anything but a marketing name for the grip texture. The folks who really latched onto their interpretation probably were just fanboys of another brand and weren't going to buy one anyway-- otherwise, if they don't want to enjoy a good trigger pull, good ergonomics, etc. because of "grip-zone" being molded into the grip that's their loss.

Like nearly all things, the price has gone up over the years.

When the original XD9 was first offered as a "defender" series gun (probably 4-6 years ago), you could find them everywhere for $299. I regret not buying several of them.

With the improved grip shape/texture, the improved slide, and improved grip safety, the Mod. 3 seems a lot better than the defender (nothing against those though).

XD's are the only "cheap" guns (they weren't when I bought mine ) that I would even consider. But, I like the XD... I was actually more excited about this one than the Echelon.

Yes they take 16 round XD9 magazines, XDm mag's are too wide they will not fit.

I'm just trying to keep up with the outrage I go to GD to see who I should be mad at and try to keep things fresh in peoples' minds in case newcomers are not aware and would want to avoid giving money to a company. I'd hate buying a Benchmade new if I didn't know what they did. I'm always willing to forgive blunders when there is genuine remorse and the company makes things right.

UPS/FedEx, not gun companies, expected. Springfield Armory, one of the most venerable companies so I hold them to a higher standard. Not going to derail the thread. Just curious if they ever owned up and apologized even if the head guy was unaware.

I just don't get it.

Bill Ruger wrote a letter to Congress asking them to ban high capacity magazines, but, as according to Springfield, a lobbyist acted without Springfield's knowledge and yet now, this unrelated negative background noise pops up in every few threads about handguns made in Croatia (I like both Ruger and Springfield by the way). This shouldn't be allowed in the tech forums anymore because it is becoming like The Boy Who Cried Wolf.

How do the MecGar magazines function compared to the factory?

I know that MecGar makes a lot of the magazines for various manufacturers (so this is usually a bit of a silly question), but it is my understanding that XD magazines are made in-house by HS Produkt.

Yeah, if you look on Springfield's home page full size XD, XDM holsters should work.
Think it depends if needing optics clearance or not.

Picked up this morning, some quick observations:
Good looking pistol but not very grippy to me.
Very good trigger averaging 4.25# pulls. Reminds me of a Canik I had.

All magazines ordered work. Lock slide back, drop free.
Hand feed with dummy rounds.
Really like the MecGars but they are double price of factory.
The Joe Bob ones are identical to what ships with gun.
Will hopefully get to range Saturday!

Thanks for the update!

If that is the same texture as the grip zone (looks like it might be from the picture), an undershirt may be a good idea if you plan to carry it.

I'll have to ponder the MecGar...

For sure grab you at least 2 of them.
They are flush fit/2 extra rnds, plus I like the finish & base pad better than the OE ones.

Shot a few mags worth yesterday along with grabbing some picks of the inside of the slide to show the fine machine work even on a $300 pistol.

Some thoughts, new slide is fantastic! Really like the cuts and size, though I think there "feels" to be more recoil than my XDSC, might be more to the mass difference between the slides. Not bad but it's noticeable. Trigger is great right out of the box and so are the sights. No hiccups with at all with my 135gr TC Blue Bullet reloads.

Downside are the finger grooves, I've got larger hands that don't line up well them so will more than likely grind them down. The other is how smooth the grip is, will definitely need to add some grip tape from PRP.

Beyond those two items, I can tell it's going to be a long term fantastic gun like all my other XD/M series I have.

To me it feels like the XD/m Elite trigger.

All my other triggers are either full blown PRP kits or combinations of parts. Pistol wise I have 2 XD/m 9's XD/m Elite in 9, XD/m C in 45. XD45 Service, XDSC in 9.

Thanks! That's good that the trigger feels like the META on the Elite line.

I like the standard XD trigger fine, but the XDM Elite trigger pull is definitely an improvement over it (and the XD is what I learned to shoot pistols on, so I'm a bit biased in its favor haha).

Ran 100rnds thru mine Saturday, functioned fine with 115/124gr ball.
Didnt do any real accuracy testing because red dot didnt deliver on time.

I have smaller hands so finger grooves fit but doesnt help with the slippery feel
of pistol. Just remedied that today & installed sight.
Hope to make it back out Friday for some accuracy testing.
