I recently acquired two m&p's and both seem to have really loose rear sight dovetails. Both rear sights came out under recoil, I was using an optic so it wasnt the end of the world. They are so loose I can push them in and out with my thumb and a little force. The set screw is really small, I am thinking.of ordering a longer one. Does anyone know the thread specs for the rear sights? |

Google thinks it's a 4-40 x 1/8. I have one somewhere when I replaced my 45f sights with hi-viz. I can look for it and see if I can measure it. Might take awhile to find it. You could take the sight to HD or a hardware store and use the nut/bolt gauge to find it as well. Mine was not loose even when I removed the screw. I found my life was a lot easier after I bought an assorted set of gunsmithing screws. Loctite isn't working, that leaves me to think a couple things. One your not degreasing completely prior to use, or two, the threads are stripped. Either or both problems are easy to create with small screws. |
