Monarch brass case > Ammunition

I bought 1k rounds of this stuff from Academy back when they had a deal on it. Tried some yesterday at the range out of my 365 and my ZEV 19X setup. Wow that stuff is jacked. All sorts of issues. Failure to feed, Eject, couldn't hit the broad side of the barn with it. Started out with my 365 build used the Norma MHP just to test them as I use that as my carry ammo and I was shooting left so I adjusted and got on track but the Monarch was all over the place. Tried it in my ZEV and same thing. I wouldn't recommend it.

Super smoky too. I couldn’t do any rapid shooting because after a few rounds I couldn’t see the steel targets very well.

I've always had good luck with that ammo so hearing that is surprising but I guess there could have been a bad lot.

Shot some of the Monarch Brass .45 ACP a couple days ago and it was good.

The stuff has ran perfect in all of my factory Glocks and Shadow 2… I bought several k of it, too

I have been shooting Monarch for years. I have easily shot over 10k rounds of the stuff (in various calibers). It has always been dirty, but also very consistent and reliable for me. I hope their QC isnt slipping.

I was curious, so I bought 100 rds of the Monarch 124 gr brass cased (made in Turkey) today. For $23.99 / 100-pack at Academy, I figured it was worth trying. It functioned fine in my P320-M18, and I thought it was as accurate as other ammo I’ve used. Not noticeably dirty. I shot it alongside some American Eagle 124 gr FMJ. Nothing scientific, but I thought they felt and performed similarly. I picked up another 100-pack on the way back from the range to try in a different pistol.

I recant my previous statement. It helps when you actually get your pistol sighted in properly then you can actually hit the target. Ammo is good to go.

I ran 50 rds of Monarch.380 through my Bodyguard 2.0, it was dirty but functional. Accuracy wasn’t as good as the 20 Aguila or 10 Fiocchi.

Isnt Monarch made by PPU for Academy?

PPU and Monarch have been very good plinking ammo for me in both pistol and rifle calibers over the last 10+ years.

Maybe the steel cased Monarch? The brass 9mm says Made in Turkey on the box. I didn’t see any other manufacturer info but will check again when I have a chance. I didn’t think to check the headstamp.

I use crap tons of the Monarch brass cased stuff from Academy.

Very very few problems. For practice ammo it works great in all of my firearms.

The steel cased ammo is awful.

Monarch went from PPU ammo (does not seem to be the case on any round any longer) , to Magtech ammo 115 grain 9mm, and now some are Turkish 9mm ammo is ZSR the last time I looked.

Funnily enough I just had my first ever squib with this ammo the other day. Seems like recently it's been super weak and inconsistent.

I bought that ammo back when Academy had it on sale. I have had zero issues with it and all my guns shoot it well. I'll buy more if it goes on sale again. Great range and practice ammo.

Just got back from there. They still had lots left. I DID notice they now have two versions, both brass cased. The Brazil-made (presumably by Armscor) and a newer Turkish made. The Turkish stuff is labeled very similar but in a more compact box. I have no idea who makes it, so I made sure to grab only the Brazil ones. There was about equal amounts of both. Just a heads up...

The Turkish stuff has a ZSR head stamp. I've shot many thousands of rounds of ZSR ammo in the last couple years. IME, it has slightly hard primers, so you might get an occassional light strike with striker guns. It has been 100% in my hammer guns. As far as my striker guns, my M&Ps have not had and issue, but I have gotten light strikes with Glock/P80.
