Got a new, blued, 2020 5" Colt Python for Christmas. Have just over 500 rounds through it now and it`s smoothing up nicely.

Very accurate with several loads and I very pleased with it except for one small complaint-

The factory target style grips (Altamont sp.?) feel good in my hands but interfere when I eject .357 Magnum cases, .38 Special eject fine but the longer magnum cases tend to catch on the grips and hang up.

I know Eagle Grips and Deer Hollow make versions of the early style factory Colt Python grips that have different profiles.

Is there a an earlier style grip that will provide more clearance for the magnum cases? I want to keep the revolver`s traditional appearance.

I bought a set from Badger’s. I’m happy.

However, they probably aren’t “traditional “. I tried “traditional “ and greatly prefer the Badgers.

Not sure about the clearance issue but the Deer Hollow grips are identical—nay superior—to original factory grips and well worth the coin if for no other reason than aesthetics.

Now wearing Deer Hollow 2nd generation oil finish grips, feel much better than OEM Colt grips, look better, work much better with speed loaders and ejecting spent brass.
