For no good reason, other than it was a decent buy, a PDP has joined the herd.  Lightly used one at Brownell's (15% off used guns thru Black Friday)

Put an Amazon red dot on it.  Ran it at the range last night.

Not bad.  Not bad at all.  Butt ugly, but it shoots quite well.  Currently has the medium back strap, may swap out for the small.  Trigger is above average for a striker gun, not quite to VP9 standards or a tuned M&P but very close.  Accurate.  Reliable, at least for the fifty rounds I had time to run thru it.  Points naturally for me.  I think I'll like it.  Holster selection is a bit weak.

Have a P99 and PPQ M2 as well, so it fits in the family.  Up to eight.

People who say PDP’s are ugly have to have something wrong with them.
They’re the best looking striker guns out there and it’s not even close. I absolutely love the PDP aesthetics with the bulky slides and huge serrations.

Either way, congrats on buying the best out the box striker gun by a mile.
Put a DPT trigger in it like the PDP Pros come with and no M&P or VP9 trigger comes close.

The aesthetics of the PDP to your liking have something to do with whether you expected a sleek sports car or a rugged G-Wagen. The PDP is the G-Wagen.
When you have to shoot, shoot. Don't talk.

And those blocky serrations work hellagood.   Mine hand just STICKS to them.   Its function over form.

PPQ M2 Navy and PDP compact, love both but the light trigger makes me nervous to EDC.
I carry a M&P P9 M2.

I also picked up a 5” PDP. Got a good deal, IMO.

Haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet, but I’m Jonesing!!

Gonna grab a flashlight and mount the 509T I have sitting in the safe.

Not sure what plate to use, whether Forward Control Designs or Calculated Kinetics DOGTAG

If they are an option, they are the answer.

Arise Manufacturing Lowrider plate is the way to go for the PDP.

I broke down and bought a used full size PDP today. I had the chance to shoot my brother-in-law's compact a while back and was very impressed, so I've had my eye on one for a while. I normally prefer compact pistols, but this one was barely used, and the price was too good to pass up. The shop said the original owner probably only put 50-100 rounds through it before he decided to trade it in, and it looks like it.

The only thing missing from the case were the additional backstraps. I believe this is the large one that's installed on it. Is there some place I can buy the factory backstrap set? I see lots of listings for aftermarket metal backstraps, but the only place I see a factory plastic set is on Walther's German site here. I don't see it listed in their online store.

@3ACR_Scout they have been improving their online store but it still sucks. I’d call their customer service and see if they can help you out.

Thanks for the tip. I called customer service about two weeks ago and spoke to a helpful guy who seemed equally miffed that the website only listed the PDP compact backstraps. He found the full size backstraps in their catalog, and I ordered one each of the medium and small so I could have a complete set (although I suspected the medium would be a good fit). The package arrived about a week later, but they unfortunately shipped me two mediums. A quick call, and they mailed a small one to me and told me to keep the second medium as a spare. The medium backstrap feels perfect for me - I can reach the mag release more easily without breaking my grip, and I feel like my index finger rests more naturally on the trigger.

I just got back from my second range trip, with a total of 600 rounds and no malfunctions. I had a an issue three times today with locking the slide back with one round left in the magazine that I know was my own fault. I noticed that my strong hand thumb seems to slip below the slide locking lever under recoil, and I'm certain I pushed it up. I like the pistol a lot, but I'm going to have to replace the iron sights. The three white dots just don't work well for me. I'm more used to shooting with an optic now, but it will be a while before I can afford one for this pistol, so I'll swap out the sights for a bold front dot and blacked out rears.

Edit: I also submitted my request for the optic plate from Walthers and received it in about three weeks. As I suspected, the original owner never requested one or registered the pistol.
