Im looking to buy a new gun for concealed carry. I moved to SC from NY 2 years ago, so finally in a place where I can carry without worry. My gun history. First gun was a glock 19 gen 3. As a lefty I eventually ended up with m&p, and sold my glock. Much prefer the reversible mag release and ambi slide lock, which glock didn't adopt until I was already heavily invested in to m&p. Full size 9 and .45 in 1st gen, now a compact 2.0. I had a shield 1.0, then a shield 45 2.0, sold those and got a shield plus in SC since Im allowed to have more than 10 rounds here. But honestly Im not thrilled with it and want to switch. My gripes with the shield. I don't understand why S&W can't put an ambi slide lock and reversible mag release on the shield. Im also not a fan of the grip extension on the extended mag. I shoot it the best with the 13 round, so I typically carry the 13 round with the 15 round as backup. This means reloads you have to break your grip. During winter months I just carry my 2.0 compact and all is good, but I want something slimmer for summer. Want to see if Im missing something. What Im looking for is basically a G48, but not a glock. Kinda how the 2.0 compact is the same as a g19 but not. If S&W did a 4" shield with a longer grip so you could take the sleeve off the 13 round mag it would be my #1 choice. I've been looking at the csx-e, and the PSA dagger micro. Honestly I prefer the dagger to the g48 in every way except that it's PSA. The grip feels better, it looks better, comes optic ready, Im just not sure if I want to trust my life to PSA. Is there anything else out there with the slimness of the shield, micro dagger, g48, while maintaining the grip size of the g48 and dagger micro? It's really between those 2, the csx e, or going to the shield carry comp and just carry with the 13 rounder, but I know if I do that I'll be right back here in 4 months. |

As I am someone primarily left handed also, you need to do some examination of your techniques and manipulations. Slide stop on the left side of the gun in the traditional location can be engaged with the left trigger finger and using the trigger finger to activate mag catch on the right side of the gun is actually for me faster with less shifting of the gun to reach than reversing it. Other than thumb safeties on a 1911 or similar design, I have not found ambi controls useful There are so many great options today in solid reliable carry guns it is hard to recommend! Go to a range that rents guns, and trial run a few and that is the best way to narrow your choices. I typically carry a couple pocket guns ( ruger LCPII or J frame) or a glock 26/19 or S&W K frame |

My primary is a 19G5, but I've been carrying my 43 more often lately to work out and get comfortable with extra descreet carry. 19g5 with an optic is incredible, but I'd get a gen6 if I were buying today. |
