I picked up a new to me Rex Zero 1S not too long ago.  I drop bids every once and while in GB and score (rarely though).  This is one of these times I won.  Came with one factory mag and was in like new condition for $300.
Like most, we have seen all the praise for this company and this model..mostly dated stuff though.. 7 yrs old etc.  Thus my initial interest in spite of me walking away from DA/SA guns years ago.
Initial disassembly and cleaning I noticed a few things.  First, the very narrow releif cut on the slide rails at the muzzle.  This is very thin.  I will assume this was done to maintain the width of the slide yet still cover the frame.  I don't like it ..seems like a good pinch point to me.

Next...the slide lock is a bitch.  With no mag, the stop has very limited travel and barely engages.  With empty magazine inserted, the slide will lock and stop will travel all the way in to the notch. Hmmm.
I dry fired it a bit and found it very hard to stage in DA, but the pull was smooth albeit a bit heavy.  For reference I shoot revolvers too, mostly in DA.  Single action was decent.
Popped a few rounds at my place with no real issues (I did notice weak ejection) and later went to the range.
At the range had a couple of issues.  Shells mostly went on top of my head forehead or shoulder.  Not good.
I also experienced mutiple no slide locks after last round.  Hmmm.
Its accurate enough though.
Later I modded the ejector to force the shell up and right as there was a little bit of brass on the lower portion of the ejection port.  I did nothing really about the slide lock other than remove burrs on the stamped lever. Went back outside..ejection is better.
In the interim, I ordered a couple of  mags because one aint enough and maybe slide after last round lock issue is mag related.
Received the additional mags and went to the range again and noted the better shell path, but could be better.  Had 2 no slide locks in 2 cycles of 3 full mags.  New mag did it too.

But BAP, dude you are riding the slide stop...no..there is no way I am riding the slide stop as this thing is taller than a giraffe's hoohoo.  The grip panels also align your grip so the shooters digits are below the controls.

One thing about the magazines is they are pretty easy to load.  The spring is a little odd, to me at least.  Been thinking of trying +10% sig / beretta spring or stocks to see if this helps.  Sucks though to buy new mags and still have to upgrade them.

Double action has improved quite a bit as wel as SA.
I took another look at the slide stop lever with slide off and am able move it up AND forward toward muzzle with not much force.  I tried to get photos of it but hard to do one handed.

Another note about ejection is the loaded chamber indicator that rides on top of the slide.  It has a wicked spring and am thinking this could be part of the issue.  I had a few beers and went looking for videos of this thing being shot and most have the same ejection that I have now (after mod). Ammo used is my own, which I run in 2 glocks, S&W, and a home made pistol..all run fine with years of use.   Try this and that isn't an option.

Sorry for the wall of text ramblings..if you made it this far.

I still like it though.
However, if I bought this new for $500 + I would be very pissed.

If you have one please chime in.  Maybe its just mine...I don't think so though.

flip that mag spring around.  it looks backwards to me.

I have one in the safe that I rarely shoot. The DA / SA trigger pull is pretty bad and it's a heavy gun for such a shitty trigger.
I'm trying to forget I bought it and leave it in the safe. Otherwise, I'd be tempted to sell it.

I also picked up my 1st CZ75, a SPO1 Tactical. It is also a heavy gun but with a fantastic trigger.

A CZ 75 s on my list..nice.

So, back to the slide lock issue.
I removed the grip panels and checked slide lock without mag and it works fine.  The issue is the left panel.
I hogged out the area in red circle and it was a bit better..but not fixed.
After an hour of fn with it I noticed a spring arm protruding in to the grip space (green circle)
Filed that area of the panel down, and it works fine now

I haven't had a chance to test yet, but I am willing to bet this will solve the intermittant no-slide lock after last round fired.

I would also assume that any aftermarket grips would be based off of the mfg, so would have the same issue.

I don't have a lot of rounds through mine but don't recall any slide lock issues. Will try to put some rounds through it soon.

Well,  went to the range and still have the slide hold open issue

I started wondering what the recoil spring weight was and if it is heavy for euro/slav ammo.
A heavy spring should lead to ejection issues with 'lighter' loads and possibly the slide issue I am experiencing.
I read somewhere there was a lighter one for these.  I beleive though, its for the longer barrel.  Regardless, out of stock every where.

Hmmm..what about Sig 226 springs?.  Found a snippet online that says yeah...so ordered a lighter 14 lb recoil spring.
Will report back with findings..even if more depresso.
Decided to hold off on replacing the mag speings for now.
