Awesome pistol. Suggest everyone who likes these Alaskan models to send a request to the CEO of ruger to build a 3 or 4 inch Alaskan. Would sell like hot cakes . Really enjoy mine in 44 mag but a 3 or 4 inch would be awesome. Enjoy. Best part of shooting it is the fireball

I agree.  The only thing is that they would have to build it the same way they do the Alaskan, shroud the barrel entirely inside the frame, however that would require a modified frame.  That's the only way I think it would look good, particularly with a short barrel, maybe I'm wrong.

This is a photoshop mockup (found on google) of what I'd like to see...

Another found on google.  Looks goofy, in the same way a Desert Eagle with a 10" does, just my opinion.

I do love shooting fireballs though.

When I found the link on Rugers website to send a message to the CEO, I told him I really enjoy my 2 Rugers, the Alaskan and a red hawk in 44 mag. But told him those larger barrel looks like ruger got lazy and just put a barrel extension on a Alaskan to keep costs down. Told him a 3 or 4 inch Alaskan would be perfect and should sell like hot cakes. Just need to spread the word to get folks to contact him. Maybe if enough do, they might make one. Don't think anyone else make one but not sure.

That is a really good idea. I'd like to see a 6 or even an 8 inch version.

I just picked up my .44 Alaskan yesterday; I may take a walk out back tomorrow to test it out.

Notice they took that ugly safety notice off the left side of the barrel shroud on the newer models.

I really like mine. Considering putting a fiber optic up front on mine. Been debating on selling my redhawk in 44 mag so I can spend more time with my alaskan. Hard decision to make.

Oh, I'd keep the Redhawk; I think you'll regret selling it.

One thing I noticed today when I tested my Alaskan is that it seemed to handle the recoil much better than my 6 inch Model 29. First of all, it's so massive that it must absorb a lot of the impulse. Second, the rubber grips soak up a lot of the shock. The Smith tends to knock my second knuckle with the trigger guard, which becomes annoying after doing a lot of shooting. The grips on the Alaskan are designed in such a way that it's not an issue.

I started out with 240 grain .44 Magnum rounds, and the recoil was stout but manageable. Then I tried some 180 grain .44 Special, and it was VERY tame! This gun is a pussycat with the .44 Special ammo; I was able to stay on target easily in double-action rapid fire. I really love this revolver.

People talk about the fireball this gun makes, but I really didn't notice it. I did notice all the powder in the snow where i was shooting though. I guess I'll have to try a night shoot to see what kind of fireball it does make.

Next thing I want to do is to come up with a decent holster for it. I carried it in my coat pocket today, but it's really too big for that.

I probably would regret it. Fireball really shows up in an indoor range. But wait until you fire in the dark. Your right, recoil is very manageable. Better than my redhawk. Will probably get a pancake holster for mine. I hit the range again friday. The alaskan will always make the trip. Just hoping enough folks contact Ruger to encourage them to make one in a 3 or 4 inch.

I emailed him last year saying basically the exact same thing lol.  I referred to the SRH as looking like a drunk plumber trying to make a longer barrel.  I requested a 3-4" barrel Alaskan and that Ruger stop changing the names on Vaqueros and such so that it's not so confusing on what ammo it's capable of safely shooting...the result?...they changed the name of the New Vaquero back to just Vaquero which makes the issue much worse....why they do that is a mystery.

I absolutely would LOVE a big bore Alaskan with a 3.5 or 4" full lug barrel! It would be big and heavy but that's not a bad thing when shooting heavy ammo, a .454 Casull Alaskan with a longer barrel would immediately go on my "must have" list.  I hope Ruger actually does it.

I've got a S&W 629 V-Comp .44 magnum that creates a beautiful fireball in an indoor range, looks awesome!!

Since this is a Ruger photo gallery I will post my newest baby!  This specific gun spent several years on my "must have" list but since it's only released every few years in small runs from Lipsey and not Ruger, it's been a beast trying to find one but it finally happened about a week ago when my sister bought it for me for an early birthday present.  I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but first chance I get she is going to the range

So here she is....a Ruger Single Six Convertible Lipsey exclusive .22LR/.22WMR KNR4

A Bearcat reworked by a friend.

Lightened and reshaped frame. Reshaped birdshead grip frame (before Ruger offered the Bearcat in a similar grip) and handmade grip panels. Fluted and chamfered cylinder. 50 lpi serrations on the front sight, rear sight cut and ejector rod.

I picked up a SR1911 this week.  Slide to frame fit is excellent.  Finish is perfect.  Grip safety is a little loose (side to side) but functions fine.  Very pleased with the purchase right out of the gate.  Here it is fresh out of the wrapper.

I was able to take it out to the range with about an hour of daylight left.

Added Ed Brown mainspring/magwell and Magpul grips.  I really like the grips.

I just swapped the trigger out for a STI black and got the take up and over travel cut out.  I'll get it out to the range probably more than once over the 3 day weekend.

Looks like she's having a blast!

Here's my old P90. Starting to show a bit of patina on the slide.

I also have a Super Blackhawk, 2nd year of production, low 4-digit serial number.
My LCP and LC9 get carried regularly. Great handguns!

Here is my LCP with scrollwork slide:
