Here is mine, an original Vaquero, artillery length. Someday I hope to save up some money and find a short barreled, birds head vaquero to go along with it.

This Single Six Convertable; the only single action revolver in the family, belongs to my wife.
It's a fine, accurate, shooter and when used with the .22 magnum cylinder it has quite a nice bark.

Own five (5) other Ruger SA as follows 4 Vaqueros in .44 mag 2 are Bisley grips 1 Single Six Convertible .22/.22mag Never owned a Colt SA and generally swore off the brand except for ARs and 1911's after discovered S & W..probably a Ford v Chevy thing. |

Dieselman, I shot the Birdsheads in Cowboy Action....low velocity, 250 gr lead RN at the short distances that game involves. They did just fine, faster shooters not hardware was my usual downfall.
Never shot any Buffalo Bore however with full house loads the recoil forces tend to roll the firearm up... usual with SA Colts and clones. Got a lot of style points though, in lieu of trophies, for the Birdsheads and a derringer.

I am a big fan of Ruger single actions. Here is my "Baker's dozen" collection of Ruger single actions that I have gathered over the years. Starting from the 12 o'clock position and going clockwise.

| I posted an image earlier but after viewing the thread again as it's since been added to, I've a question for most others here with the non-adjustable sight models. I've noticed that most still have an untouched front sight on them. I believe that the front sights are made purposely high. On mine, leaving the sights factory height would have me hitting 6-8" low using 158 grain (which for me is the ideal weight) 357's at 35'. Though my image doesn't show it well (one that does is aperdue's top image as they look as mine do), I've filed mine down slowly to raise the POI so that now I lollipop 158 grain and go POA, POI for 38' specials and light weight 357's. So my question is, are you using a large hold over or were yours fine as is from the factory? |

My sights have been filed down to shoot POA. Mine pistols were factory blued afterwards, but the typical thing to do is to file them (very slowley, easier to take off than to put back on) then cold blue the metal that was filed. |

Yes, I mentioned yours look as mine do now and I also went the slow and steady route as you described. Mine are stainless so as opposed to bluing I started out with a 100 grit sandpaper and ended at 0000 steel wool and then using Mothers billet polish to finalize it. I meant that most of the others seem to still have the factory heights to them so I was curious as to if they were using a hold over. Even with the 158 grain slugs which is fairly respectful for 357's, I was still a good half foot low at 35'. |

The reason mine are taken down so much is for cowboy action shooting, little bit lighter loads that shoot lower than full power. |

My first single action cowboy gun, Colt Frontier Scout ‘62 in .22LR. 
My second, Uberti 1873 Cattleman (black powder frame) in .357 Mag with their Old West .finish and 5.5” barrel.

Here are the SA's I currently own. Hopefully there will be more on the way soon.
From top to bottom: My first handgun (had to paint houses with my father all summer when I was 10 to earn it) Ruger Super Single Six convertible .22lr/.22mag, John Gallagher custom .45 Blackhawk Bisley conversion, Hamilton Bowen custom .45 Blackhawk, Uberti "Millenium .45 Colt, Uberti .44-40/.44spl, Uberti .45 Colt, Uberti Birdshead .45 Colt, Uberti 1872 Open Top .45 Colt, Cimmaron Arms 1860 Richards/Mason Conversion .38 Special, Pietta 1851 "Army" .44, with a pair of 1858's on the sides. The 1858's won't look that way for long. The Uberti will have a shortened barrel with the R&D .45 Colt conversion with the loading gate and ejector rod and an 1873 Winchester front sight dovetailed in and custom grips. the other is an old CVA (Armi San Marcos) that my father bought for me when I was 15. I went through a phase where I was shooting nothing but black powder for years and this was shot a lot, almost daily, and completely rebuild several times. I'm shortening the barrel to 4-3/4", shortening the loading lever, Winchester 1873 dovetailed front sight and a set of custom grips.
