I was humbled today. First my Holosun on my USP broke. Turret apparently shit out. This makes me 0-3 for Holosun pistol dots messing up, though the other two were minimal shake awake failures in the cold. Then the bigger issue, my astigmatism. I do most of my shooting outdoors during the day. I’ve larped around the house and felt pretty confident. But shooting in a dimly lit indoor range at 25 yards, I shot like absolute shit. All of my pistol dots looked like hockey sticks and even with the illumination dialed down and my pistol lights on, I couldn’t even tell where the actual dot was most of the time. The 1911 was my only iron sighted gun and I did great with it. I’d genuinely be screwed in a night time engagement past breath smelling distances with a red dot. Didn’t have nearly as much trouble with an enclosed rifle red dot though. Anyone switched back to irons due to astigmatism? |

What I’m running into is a lowlight issue only. My astigmatism flares up and the dot goes crazy. With my pistol light up close I can tell where the blob is brightest. Once the illumination drops on target to a lower point, I can’t even tell where it’s brightest at. With an Aimpoint and a Vortex rifle sight I can tell where the actual dot is among the visual distortion, and with the more powerful rifle lights on distortion was almost not present. With my open pistol dots it’s just chaos. Maybe I need a 300 turbo. |

Was out with friends today, we were getting ready to leave. "One minute till target change period!" announced by RA. Grab a last 140mm mag with 22 or 23rd in it, and just start blasting bang bang bang 1 shot a secondish cadence at 25yd, not going for excellence just good enough shooting to finish before target change. Ends up being my best shooting of the day, and one of my better 25yd results.  Definitely would not have shot that well - especially at that cadence - with irons.

Just got this back from Battlewerx at the beginning of the month and finally had time to get to the range yesterday. Five hundred trouble free rounds.This was my first time using a pistol optic. Combined with the Glock Performance Trigger (I added the Overwatch shoe) it was FAST. Attached File |

Just picked up a CSX-E the other week. Have not even had time to shoot it yet. It has a removable plate for one of those things but since it's so short you lose the back sight which is held in by the plate. I have never used one of these optics before and still not sure I want to due to reliability concerns. Still, I'm curious. What is a reliable one that has the rear sight built onto it and is not wider than my slide? Also, I don't know what they cost but I'm not willing to spend a ton for an experiment. This is going to be a carry gun for me. (Mostly pocket carry probably) Not sure the optic is going to make that easy to get out of there. Suggestions? |

I haven't found a load that it isn't accurate with yet. Everything from Winchester, Speer, Federal, American Eagle, everything groups great. It likes 180gr. |
