| So I went to pick up my Hellcat and while I was there I noticed a really nice blued P89 in the display case. I know they (Ruger P89) are rock-solid and tough and I thought I need one to round out my collection. Normally, when looking at used pistols, they are pretty gritty and dirty but the prior owner of this pistol took pride in his tool pistol. Will go nice with my P90! |

I bought mine in '92. The gun just never refuses to do it's job. There have been times I shot several hundred rounds, loaded the magazine and stuck it away for a year or so, and pulled it out and shot a few more hundred, loaded it back up and back on the shelf. I clean it "sometimes". It does not care. Only time I ever had an issue was when I got a Promag 32 round magazine. If I loaded it with 32 rounds, the first 2 rounds would not feed correctly. If I only load 30, it works just fine. The 2 original 15 round mags and the 20 round Promag have never given me a problem. Same for ammo, I have never had an issue (no fail to fire, fail to eject, etc) with any ammo (again, except for the 32 round promag, but it is not an ammo issue), even the nasty Winchester Forged steel case garbage that did cause issues with other pistols. |

Never really cared for it myself. It didn't fit my hand right. The trigger guard cut isn't right, so your middle finger ends up having to sit too low in the pistol grip. Got a Cz75 and much preferred that, in comparison. Way more comfortable in my hand. That said, the P89 does run and I never minded th anesthetics. Always struck me as the Pontiac Aztec, of pistols. |

| I am another one who bought the P89 as his first pistol. Still have it. I take it out on occasion to shoot it. The only time it failed me was on some questionable gun show ammo in ziploc bags. Never made that mistake again. |

I remember the day I bought mine. It was November 1993. “FredMan”, says I to myself, “you need a pistol”. The Brady law was coming into effect and I didn’t want no background check, so I trundled on out to a local bid box sporting goods store, sauntered up to the gun counter, and said “show me what you got”. Guy says “These Rugers are inexpensive, well built, and incredibly reliable.” “SOLD!!!” says I, and 10 minutes later I’m out the door with a few boxes of cheap FMJ. I lived on 160 acres back then, so I put the dog in the house, walked out to the edge of the yard, threw out a few drink cans, and started blasting away. A few weeks ater I spy the cover of Time magazine, and what do I see? Gosh! Looks just like mine! Attached File |

They are great guns. My first three years in LE I carried a blued P89DC. I had rust issues on the Gulf coast and had the slide parkerized which solved that issue. Eventually sold it for something else. Currently have a P85, P89DC blued and a P90. Great guns that just keep going and going

P85 was my first pistol, traded it for a Mod 36, I was a poor broke rookie cop. I needed a back up gun, the FFL was kind enough to trade for a new S&W. I could never find another P85, so I found a P89. It’s the one pistol that my wife will dispose of once I’m gone. |

| I bought a P95DC that my wife really liked. I sold it and have still not heard the end of it. LGS has a beat up P89 in the bargain bin for $125 I might grab. It's had a rough life but it also might clean up alright. |

My first legal purchased pistol in 93 right before the ban. Sold it to a co-worker and then that co-worker quit and never saw him again. I was talking to another co-worker I didn't know that well and discussing teh gun I sold. He tells me he bought it off of the guy who quit! I bought it back a week later and never let it go again. |

The prices of these Ruger P series tanks are increasing year by year and the ones in LN condition are going for insane prices. I own one P85, two P89s, two P93s and one P94. Saw a used stainless P89 in VG condition at the local shop for $450… A little high IMHO. Slept on it and went back the next day and it was gone. They were beyond popular in the Army’s PX when I was stationed up in Alaska in the mid/late 80s and the P85s were going for $225 NIB. Very popular with GIs and I wish I’d bought one, but I went broke on a Beretta 92 FS and already had an older S&W 439, so I was good on 9mm pistols. Being a young man throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, I tend to be attracted to firearms from that period now and had to add a few P series to my current collection to bring me back to those years!! |

I've had one since 1990-91. I lost count of how much ammo has been sent down the pipe. It has been used to teach 4 kids how to shoot a pistol. It is heavy and boxy, not something one would try to conceal IWB, but dead reliable. Will go bang every time. I had the guide rod crack, called Ruger and I was sent another.

| I have a mint P89 in stainless , also a stainless 45 , both are flawless and shoot good never a problem , the trigger is nice for this type of gun . it`s hard to pass one up when I see a real nice one for sale , and they keep going up for a real clean one in box . |

My first gun...I can only find one photo of it from almost 20 years ago. It might even have been a P85, but either way. I don't recall ever cleaning it and remember blasting 100's of rounds through it and it always went *bang*. (hiding in the back there) Attached File I wasn't really into guns, but my good buddy at the time worked for his dad's pawn shop, so he always had cool sh*t. I want to say he sold me the Ruger for like $100...it was cheap. I traded the Ruger straight across for a Springfield 1911 a while later from the same buddy because he said he had almost nothing into the 1911. Beautiful gun but wasn't particularly reliable so I offloaded that after a few years. Recently found a well used P95 to replace my "first gun". I traded an old Chicom Tokarev clone for it, (not even a cool one in 7.62X25, the lame one converted to 9mm with the bullsh*t safety.) Attached File |

I've also had decent luck finding some cheap as shit on ebay believe it or not. They also have mec-gar for $23. OEM for several manufactures, great mags. |
