It depends on your local laws. Federal law is clear - it causes the pistol to be considered an SBR as far as ATFE is concerned, and is subject to certain federal restrictions. In some states/locations, this is all that applies. In other states, SBRs are not allowed at all, or more restricted. Some states do not allow an SBR to be concealed, or for carry of an SBR to be covered under their carry permit laws, so in certain states it may not be legal to pull the pistol out of the KPOS and stick it in you concealment holster, while it is in others. As far as I know, TX has pretty good laws, but you will want to check this yourself, as I am not an expert on state law by any means.
According to the ATFE, you can remove an SBRed pistol from the registry, but they don't refund your tax, of course.
