Looking for a "forever" RDS with a larger window & RMR/RMSc footprint to put on a Raider 365. Any reason to buy something else over the SRO? |

If budget is no option, RMR HD is the absolute king of pistol dots and it’s not even close. Durability of the RMR, big glass similar to an SRO (just not round of course), and has an auto brightness that leads the industry by miles. Like, it’s ALWAYS perfect no matter the lighting conditions. No brainer if you can stomach the $700+ price point. |

I don't think there is such a thing as a forever rds. I think rds will continue to get better, and its still a piece of glass on a gun. Depending on your definition, but I kinda feel like with red dots, you're going to want a new one in 10 years. That said, trijicon rcr. I think enclosed optics are far superior, and the market is going that direction. My buddy has 2 SRO's and loves them though. I'd like one too, but rcr first. I'm poor, and only have 1 rmr |

I'm poor, and only have 1 rmr The tech really isn’t moving like you think it is… The most durable optic on the market is still the RMR and it’s not even debatable. It’s a 15 year old optic… Sure, there’s features it lacks compared to others, but it can get ran over by a tank and still work and go 100k+ rounds… As far as enclosed optics: They’re neat but they solve a problem 99% of shooters simply don’t/will never have a concern for… I like my ACROS and recently bought a Defender ST Enclosed I’m really enjoying too, but I don’t think I’m missing out on anything in any way/shape/form with my open emitter dots. |

Less than 10 years ago, I bough an rmr type 1. It's still a good optic, but its somewhat "obsolete" compared to current offerings. That, and I think the chinese offerings will drive down the cost of everything(aimpoint t2 aside). I know what you mean that there isn't a big problem with open emitters, but I think in 10 years, everything will be closed emitters. |
| I have used most of the current hotness, the RMR is still king for an open emitter but I personally don't like an open style RDS. The ACRO and the RCR are my current favorites with the RCR leading by a slight margin simply because it uses the super common RMR footprint. |

I've shot using most of the popular options and I prefer larger windows and I don't have issues shooting with an open emitter. The important size measurement to me is the height of the window and the RMR HD is nowhere close in that measurement to the SRO. If you don't mind Chinese made optics, the Vortex Defender XL or Holosun 507 Comp perform as well as the SRO for half the cost. I have been happy with the Holosun 507 Comp. My only complaint is that it uses a different battery than the more ubiquitous 2032. |

The lens popping out of a SRO is a thing. The SRO isn't one of Trijicon's shining moments. In USPSA people are going with the Defender XL or 507 Comp to fill the large window RDS niche. I am happy with my 507. Is either tangibly better or worse than an SRO? I don't know. At least you don't pay Trijicon prices for an optic with a known issue. |
