Simple question, which do you prefer, blued, nickel, stainless, or other?

What's your least favorite?

Personally, I prefer stainless, followed by blued, with nickel far, far behind. I do have a S&W Model 14 which appears to have been parkerized. I'd put it above nickel just because of how easily nickel can be damaged and how shitty it looks when it has been.

The old Colt Royal Blue, as applied to my '65 Python. You could shave in it-- it's all in the polish job.

I don't have a favorite finish.

Performance trumps all.

High polish blued.

Use to be a blued pistol guy

The convenience of stainless has a beauty all of its own

Its really grown on me

I prefer a blued finish, but so long as it's a matte finish and not shiny, I can like a silver like finish.

I like blue and stainless but if I had to pick one it would be blue.

Properly done blued is first for me. It's like a work of art. Then bead blasted stainless.

A well done bluing looks great.

Stainless looks good and is more durable for regular carry.

Own a ton of revolvers.  I started out with blue, jumped hard into stainless when they first came out (yeah, I'm old) then moved back to blue.  Have two or three in nickel.  A couple parked.  Any more I just buy what interests me.

Carry revolvers are all stainless.

This.  I love a good blued gun, but they usually stay in the safe.  The stainless guns get carried.

Blued. Ironically, I only own stainless revolvers. Unless you count my S&W 432UC, but I would consider that black, not blued.

Stainless for something I’m going to use. Bead blasted is nice for reducing glare. A well worn blued gun has its own appeal too but the utility of stainless is hard to beat. I’ve sold two nickel finish guns just so I didn’t have to worry about damaging the finish. Hate nickel.

Polished stainless, but the blackened finish on my TRR8 is also pretty sweet.

I’d be happy to have the nitride/Tenifer/Melonite/etc finish/treatment catch on for revolvers the way it has with semi-autos. Not quite sure why it hasn’t.

I love the look of the old Colt / Smith blueing but the best finish I've had on a gun I owned was Armoloy, a hard chrome finish.  I had a 4" Highway Patrolman that had been Armoloyed with a satin finish and it was amazingly easy to clean, not to mention virtually impossible to scratch.

The older Colt & S&W deep blue.

Ruger makes damn fine working guns, but they never matched the blueing of the pre-1970s Colt or S&W.

If I had the choice, I would want them parkerized, which is very rare for revolvers. Blued is the next best thing. I don't want anything shiny.

Blued. And I'm not afraid to use it.

"But it'll scratch and scuff he finish."

Yeah, that's the point. The only thing that looks better than a nice blued finish is a nicely worn blued finish.

Although I have a weird fetish for old west revolvers with a parkerized finish and black rubber checkered grips.

Like this:

Though I'm not sure if that particular one is actually parkerized or just some other gray finish.

The old highly polished blued finishes are my favorites. I know that functionally they are the worst, it's easy to scratch and wear them and rust damage usually hides under the stocks but they are just so good looking.
Functionally I think standard stainless brushed finishes are the best. Minimal care takes care of any rust forming anywhere and the grey 3M pads can be used to restore the brushed finish from any wear. Any of the coatings are typically good for a decade or more, but all will eventually wear through and if not properly done will flake. Re-doing them can be a problem as the better they resist wear the harder they are to remove in order to properly re-coat the firearm.

Voted blue, and I'm not afraid to carry them.
A polished black NDLC is a close second since it looks like bluing. But nobody really does that from factory.
Yeah I know, user name does not check out.
I've only ever actually owned one nickel plated gun. A Beretta 85.

Edit: lol, I didn't realize I posted in this thread before.

I like 'em all. Proper high polish blue or nickel. Plus, stainless and color-case hardened is a blast. I have 'em all. But my favorite is stainless just because it is easier to clean.

Out of all the S&W revolvers I've owned, this is the first blued one.

A 25-5 I picked up today.

While I'm solidly in the stainless steel camp, she sure is a beauty
