I am learning that deer hunting is pretty much everywhere. ):

edit...but, looking at the map it seems deer hunting is only in smaller areas. The question would be do we need to avoid the upland game guys as well?

Silver Springs is closed to pheasant hunting on the weekends until mid January if I remember correct.

Haven't forgot about you guys, hoping to get out with you soon

Meaning deer hunting is not allow due to the pheasant hunting, correct?

I think they're different areas. I've never been there for deer, but have for pheasant.

I could be wrong, but I believe they close down the park for hunters only. The times I have been there, I have never seen anyone without blaze orange and an issued IDNR patch for hunting.

Edit: Just looked at that map, seems it would be good to hike on the north side of the road, south of the river. Limits it to a pretty small area though

Website says they're open for pheasant Oct. 16 - Jan 8. The pheasant areas seem to be most of the park.

edit for clarity- no mention of weekend suspension of hunting.

I meant to say that the park is closed on the weekends for hunting. But looks like the allow it for most of the week. Been a couple years since I've been down there

Speaking of the time I assume we’re not doing the whole loop unless we want to finish well after dark.

Out and back or stage a vehicle or two?

You said Bluff lot.

We could do out and back to Cass for 6 or to Lemont for uh, 8 ish.

Not sure why I thought Lemont to Bluff was 3.

I thought the same thing. Turns out it’s over 3.75.

Question is will Bluff to Cass get guys hiking for qualification a full 6?

Edit- I can actually check that. I have enough GPS logs from hiking there it’s no problem to get an exact distance once I’m in front of my computer. Will report back.

Turns out pulling partial distances out of the data I have isn’t as easy as I thought. Doesn’t matter, we can just turn around at 3 if someone wants to get 6. No reason that needs to be exactly at the Cass lot, which is something it took me a little to long to realize.

3 and back sounds good.

If anyone feels a need to stage a vehicle at the Cass lot let me know and I'll swing by there at 2:15. Otherwise, see you guys at the Bluff lot tomorrow.

We are parked at the bluff road trailhead. The place is packed though and we were lucky to get a spot.
