Hopefully I'll be able to bring my silencer for my USP 45 (just got it yesterday, but there's a slight problem). I'll definately bring my Gemtech Halo for the AR.

Should be a fun day!

ETA: The problem with my .45 can has or at least will have been resolved well in time for the shindig.

Hey Leadpumper,
If you wouldn't mind, please bring the SIG228. I'm looking at a different carry gun and I understand that it is relatively compact. If so, I'd like to see how it fits my hand. I'll toss some 9mm's in the ammo box.
TIA,
Ed

eshell - If you wouldn't mind, please bring the SIG228.

no problem, it's a 'Made in Germany' model SIG P228 9mm. The folded metal slide and forged frame weight and balance a little different than the P229 that replaced it. This particular piece was part of the SIG 'certified previously owned' program. It got a complete reworking at SIG than was sold as 'used'. I added a set of wolf springs and Hogue grips and love it. If I could carry a gun this would be it

Naturally...

blindviper - Hey LeadPumper could you bring the m1 garand I would love to shoot it.

Sure thing. It's a 1955 H&R receiver mixmaster (lots of Springfield parts) from the CMP. Last time I had it out, I had a problem with cases sticking in the chamber. Turns out some of the Korean surplus ammo I used was corrosive and a fine layer of rust formed on the chamber wall. I've since polished the chamber and changed my cleaning routine...

Hey All, i'm coming to the BBQ and I had a general question.  Does anyone have a few spare AR15 firing pins.  My Sten Mk III Semi Auto Kit has a AR15 firing pin and they want 8 bucks a piece and 7 bucks for shipping.  so if anyone has a few (2, 3) I would be happy If I could buy them for 5-6 bucks a piece.  If you can help email me at [email protected].

                        Thanks Again all!

Hey Trapture, I'd be glad to bring a couple extras with me, and e-mailed you as much.

Only thing is, they're not "5-6 bucks a piece" . . . . sorry dude. Not sure why you'd ask the favor and then offer less than you know they cost anyway. . . .

I'll match Fulton's price of $6.95 if you still want them, since that's where the my replacement stock will likely come from.

. . . . . just be advised there was a fairly good amount of poison ivy in the field.  Even though its mowed its still around.  Not to scare anyone but to make you aware.  I'd maybe bring a change of clothes if you want to try shorts or something.

Sounds more important that you bring your own TP. . .

BBQ, I'm still on and the daughter decided at the last minute to join me, so it will be "2".
She's bringing her pink AR15 and a 20 ga.
I will also be bringing a 10x10 pop up canopy.
I'll bring 2 chairs for sure, do I need to bring a couple more?
Still planning to bring some paper plates/cups, paper towels, crap like that (still needed?), some ice and sodas/beer . . . and what else?

Need a small (30" x 60") folding table?

I've got the steel targets, a paper target frame/targets, and have a 4x4 truck, so I'm self contained and can get to wherever you plan to set up to shoot. Found some clay birds in the garage, maybe a hundred.

Concerns about the steel targets I'd like to point out now:

1) We have to be back off of them some with rifles,at least 50 yards or so, to reduce the possibility of getting any frags coming back, and to reduce pitting from high velocity bullets. Oddly, a .338 Lapua at 100 yards leaves less mark than a 55 grain .223. . .

Pistols aren't so bad for high velocity frags and we can shoot them a little closer, especially if we can get them to lean away at the bottoms as they usually hang.

2) **NO** AP or steel core (like M855 or similar) ammo on the steel.

First, the probability of ricochet is HUGE with steel core ammo on hardened steel plate. HUGE.

Then, those AP/steel core bullets that do not come back will likely damage the plates. These targets are made of 3/8" AR500 which is surface hardened and is the customary material for steel targets. It will resist damage with sensible use beyond our lifetimes, but can/will be damaged by the wrong ammo. I spent more than $800 to buy and process a full 4 x 8 sheet of AR500 into various targets and I am happy to bring it out, but I sure don't want to throw that money away being stupid.

There may even be frag problems with steel jacketed ammo, like Wolf, but I'm not sure and as long as we're safe, I don't think it will damage the steel. We'll see, I've got some Wolf for the AK.

3) You are shooting the steel targets at your own risk - not my problem if you hurt yourself . . . .

I would strongly suggest shooting glasses, at least for the steel, even if you don't like to wear them otherwise.

Trapture, got your e-mail and I put your firing pins (2) in the pack this morning.

Sounds like a good time, see you guys tomorrow.

1.) What were the caliber restrictions again?

2.) Last minute thought... an idea I'm stealing from the NJ shoot I went to.

How about door prizes/drawing.... where everyone brings something to give away. People draw a number, the number is called... people get to pick from the items donated. Worked out great at that shoot. Everyone pretty much walked away with something.

I have a double rifle case I have no use for any more. Possibly some other stuff as well.

Just a thought.

Pathfinder,

They just had a random drawing for the prizes at the Allegheny Sniper Challenge I attended in mid May and they used an unusual approach.

They took a deck of new playing cards, and went around the crowd with them. Each person pulls a card from the deck and tears it in half. Fold one part in half and drop it in a hat, keep the second part of the card as your "ticket stub".

Half-cards are pulled from the hat, and the owner of the other half comes up and picks something from the table. Once that card is used, it's not put back into the hat, and so no one wins more than one prize. Worked very well.

We'd probably have to set some sort of "value range", or someone will bring a $50 item and leave with a $2 item. . . .

I'll check in in the morning - if you decide to cancel, I'll certainly understand, although we'll definately have to come up with a rain date (I'm good every weekend except 6/24 and 7/14  ).  It wouldn't be the first time if they totally got the forecast wrong and tomorrow turned out to be nice though.  Always optimistic - that's me...
