It's a good long-term idea to be in the triangle like that.  Small town he can dominate, close enough to the big ones.

Everything south of the Nueces will be the initial SpaceX Special Autonomous Zone, so I thought he might like to be in there.  But it's too far from Austin for a tech company right now.

Prediction - "Don't Austin My Bastrop" bumperstickers will soon be a huge seller.

It's a great town & close to ABIA (International Airport) so I can see the possibilities, but Bastrop (& anywhere around Austin for that matter - Dripping Springs, Marble Falls, Liberty Hill & San Marcos / Kyle) have been over run with "transplants" and not all of them bring "Traditional Texas Values".

One can only hope. I've seen what they did to Leander and Liberty Hill.

Smart way to rid of lib workers especially from San Francisco.

Texas is not for everyone.

If he wanted to do that, he would have move the headquarters to somewhere between Midland and Amarillo.

It's how I sleep at night, so don't go ruining it for me.

It's the best we can hope for.

It'll still concentrate a lot of money from X and out of state there, which I'm sure will just thrill the natives.

80% of former twitter staff already left or were laid off when and after purchased them.  Shouldn't be too many transplants.

Bastrop was sort of a semi-secret spot for those who wanted traditional rural, "Conservative Texas" but still be in reach of the Airport or Austin if needed.

Prices were "reasonable" (compared to Austin & the surrounding Hill Country areas) and the "quality of life" high.

Having "X" HQ move to Bastrop will certainly change the "Old Texas" feel & nature of Bastrop & Bastrop County.
