Got this from MNGOC

The DFL has called the first gun control hearing of the 2026 legislative session — and they scheduled it for the very first day they hold the gavel in the House Public Safety Committee.

On Tuesday, February 24 at 3:00 PM, the committee will hear two sweeping gun control bills:

HF 3433 – A broad ban on the possession of nearly all semi-automatic rifles. While there is limited “grandfathering,” you would permanently lose the ability to transfer your firearm.

HF 3402 – A total ban on magazines holding more than 10 rounds. No grandfathering. You would be required to destroy them, surrender them to law enforcement, permanently modify them, or move them out of state.

These are not minor regulatory tweaks. These are direct attacks on commonly owned firearms and standard-capacity magazines possessed by hundreds of thousands of law-abiding Minnesotans.

Here’s what you must do immediately:

1. Submit Written Testimony (Deadline: Monday, Feb. 23 at 3:00 PM)
Make your opposition part of the official record.

>> Follow instructions to submit your testimony on our website.

2. Contact Your Legislators

>>  Go to our Action Center and tell your Senator and Representative to vote NO.

Contacting my legislators would be akin to pissing up a rope!

I always let my rep know they're a disappointment to me and anyone like me.  Hopefully it weighs in on their conscious, but I figure since most are godless commies they don't have a soul to reflect on.

Make some noise folks.

They will need 1 Republican to get this passed in the house, I don't see that happening.

Here's a letter I just sent to my state representative and state senator. If anyone wants to, feel free to use it, just add some of your own personal touch, so it doesn't become a form letter.

Dear Senator X,  Representative Y ,

My name is  _________________, and I am one of your constituents in Minnesota. I am writing to you today because once again, the Democrats in Minnesota are pushing for gun control laws that flagrantly violate the Second Amendment, of the Bill of Rights, of the Constitution of the United States of America. Sadly the Democrats, and unfortunately some Republicans, either willfully ignore, or do not understand that the Bill of Rights is supposed to act as chains on the Federal and State governments, protecting the inalienable rights of the people.

Like clockwork, the Democrats are already pushing for bans on the AR15 platform of semi-automatic rifles, along with other rifles that they deem "scary", as well as magazine limits, and "safe storage" regulations. None of these proposed laws would have any positive effect on crime. May I refer you to the many works of author John Lott who uses hard data to prove the ineffectiveness of gun bans on crime.

I have personally taken some time to study the FBI Crime Statistics regarding weapons used in homicides in Minnesota.
Below I will list the top twelve methods/tools used in homicides in Minnesota for the last ten years combined (2025 excluded
due to the data not out yet).

Handgun                                                     560
Firearm                                                        407
Knife/Cutting Instrument                           171
Other                                                            131
Personal Weapons (hands, feet, etc.)     105
Blunt object                                                  30
Rifle                                                                29
Shotgun                                                         18
Asphyxiation                                                 14
Fire/Incendiary Device                                 13
Drugs/Narcotics/Sleeping Pills                    3
Poison                                                             2

Source: https://cde.ucr.cjis.gov/LATEST/webapp/#/pages/explorer/crime/shr

As you can see, there are about just as many people murdered using blunt objects (rocks, boards, bricks, etc.) as all rifles.

There are more than three times the people murdered by the criminal using their own body parts as weapons compared to all rifles.

There are more than four times the people murdered using "other" weapons (let's assume improvised) than all rifles.

There are more than five times (almost six) the people murdered using knives/cutting instruments than all rifles.

The FBI does not breakdown rifles further into sub categories. There are four different types of rifles: Bolt-Action, Lever Action, Pump Action, and Semi-Automatic. Using this information, AR15s and similar rifles are a subset of all rifles. In light of these facts, semi-automatic rifles (especially AR15s and similar types) are only a fraction of that number of 29 over ten years.

There is not now, nor was there in the past, any epidemic/crisis/emergency due to semi-automatic rifles being widely used in homicides in Minnesota, nor across the United States.

The Democrats have no statistical nor factual basis for the push of their proposed anti-gun laws/bans, infringing on the Second Amendment and thousands of law abiding citizens of Minnesota.

Sound reason, logic, and facts should at every instance, be paramount to feelings and emotions when proposing laws that affect thousands, if not millions of law abiding citizens and their civil rights.

Lawmakers should not lightly approach tampering with our rights enshrined in the Constitution. Lawmakers are supposed to be guardians of the God-given rights and liberties of the American people. The role of the American government, a Republic, is to protect the rights of the citizens, not infringe upon them.

I thank you for standing firm to this point on this particular matter. I pray that you will continue to faithfully defend and uphold the Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights.

Please feel free to share this letter, or at least the hard data I have provided, with your peers. I encourage you to especially share it with any Independents and Democrats that have an honest and open mind, and are willing to consider sound logic, facts, and reason.

Thank you for your service, and your time.

Sincerely,

The democrats are not logical that is for sure.  Their view is tax us to death and infringe upon our rights.   You know someone has to pay for the fraud and corruption.

Fired this off today.  Pointless based upon where I live, but that's no excuse for not sending a communication.

ETA:  I played up the DHS/ICE angle since my legislators are all DFL anyways.

I am writing as your constituent to strongly urge you to oppose any proposed ban on commonly owned semi-automatic firearms, standard-capacity magazines, or similar legislation.

Assault weapons and so-called “standard capacity” magazines are responsible for a comparatively small share of overall violent crime, while statistics consistently show that handguns are used in far more offenses. Banning commonly owned semi-automatic rifles or standard magazines lacks grounding in the text of the Second Amendment, which protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms without distinguishing among classes of firearms in common lawful use. Many of the items proposed for prohibition are widely owned by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes such as self-defense, recreation, and sport shooting. Additionally, crime data often fail to capture defensive firearm uses, which can deter or stop crimes without a shot being fired, thereby underrepresenting the public safety benefits of lawful gun ownership. As you are aware, criminals, by definition, do not comply with existing gun laws anyway, and adding new prohibitions is unlikely to affect those already willing to break the law.

There are also fiscal and constitutional concerns regarding the proposed legislation. If the bans were to become law, challenges would likely be extensive and costly, potentially tying the measures up in court for years and requiring significant public resources to defend—an important consideration as Minnesota faces projections of a budget deficit in the coming years. Some critics argue that recent controversies involving federal agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement underscore the importance of maintaining strong constitutional protections for individual rights, including firearm ownership. From this perspective, broad bans risk burdening lawful citizens while offering uncertain benefits to public safety and may ultimately prove both ineffective and expensive.

Pretty much the reply I expected:

Dear Neighbor,

Thank you for letting me know of your opposition to gun safety legislation at the capital. These bills would enact some rational, common-sense regulations that minimize the burden on responsible gun owners while addressing the epidemic of gun violence in our nation.

Further, Minnesota saw more gun deaths in 2021 than it has seen in over 20 years. While many of these deaths happened here in the Twin Cities Metro, nearly the same amount occurred outside of the Metro as well. Ultimately, gun violence continues to impact Minnesotans throughout the state, regardless of age.

We need to address our crime and gun violence problems – and it is not acceptable to wait until after a shooting occurs to act.

Thanks again for sharing your perspective on this legislation.

I wasn't aware that this one was in committee today.

Bill to allow local governments to regulate firearms fails in committee

A day after a House Public Safety Finance and Policy Committee failed to approve a ban on possessing semiautomatic military-style assault weapons, a bill that would allow local governments to pass their own gun regulations met the same fate in a different committee.

Sponsored by Rep. Dave Pinto (DFL-St. Paul), HF3351 would repeal the state pre-emption of local governments for regulating firearms thereby allowing local governments to regulate firearms with “reasonable, nondiscriminatory, and nonarbitrary ordinances, [and] the location of businesses where firearms are sold by a firearms dealer.”

“We are hearing from local officials that they want to, and deserve to, take steps to protect their communities,” Pinto said.

However, a 6-6 party-line vote keeps the bill in possession of the House Elections Finance and Government Operations Committee.

Local governments cannot create ordinances that regulate firearms except for regulations identical to state law, and specifically on where firearms may be discharged.

“Granting reasonable local authority is not about removing rights. It’s about giving communities the ability to respond responsibly to their community’s needs,” said Kristen Neville, a mother of five children attending Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.

St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey provided written support for the bill.

“If state leaders aren’t willing to come together to pass gun safety laws for all of Minnesota, then I respectfully request that you pass HF3351, to enable us to keep our communities safe by acting at the local level,” Her wrote.

[MORE: Written testimony on HF3351]

Moriah Day, Midwest region director for government relations-state affairs at The Firearm Industry Trade Association, opposes the bill, saying it would create “a patchwork of conflicting local ordinances, create legal confusion, cause economic harm, and introduce additional compliance challenges to your constituents.”

Speaking on behalf of the National Rifle Association, Brian Gosch compared the potential patchwork gun laws that would be made by the bill to other areas that require statewide uniform laws like traffic and tax law. “There are certain areas of the law that should be uniform across the state,” he said.

For Rep. Ben Davis (R-Merrifield), the case was simpler: “It gives cities the right to violate rights.”

Time to get organized. Make no mistake, this so called assault weapons ban will pass the senate. If we get one limp-wristed republican in the house, our 2nd amendment rights are gone.

There's probably no stopping the Senate from passing the bills. The Democrat cult demands compliance. We'll have to hope that there are no Republican turncoats in the House.

Republican house leadership has stated that it has no path forward in the house, and they won’t let it get to a vote.  It *should* be dead for this session.  It’s an election year though, and it would only take one seat to flip to make next year’s outcome look a lot different.
