I know quite a few people with cars imported from Japan under the 25 year old exemption. Used to be able to title/register them here no problem. But all of a sudden the DMV has said that you no longer can. They updated their site to reflect it: Attached File Even know someone who didn’t z tag their imported car, and went to and they wouldn’t even let him re-register his car that was already titled/ registered here. Haven’t heard of them pulling anyone’s that is already z tagged. And I really hope it doesn’t come to that. But we have to get this changed. Now these people have a car that is essentially worthless since we are isolated from other states and it can’t be registered here. Also I hate to think states like Massachusetts have more freedom on the matter than Alaska. The DMV says it’s a law and not a DMV policy. If you have time and want to write your representatives I’d appreciate it. I know I will be. |

Interesting, I'll have to look into that. I'm fairly safe, personally, mine is a '63. Way into antique territory. |

And I’ve spent $15,000 and 9 months and counting having the engine rebuilt. And if I do all that just to get a notice that it is now illegal I’m going to be beyond pissed. |
