I know we have at least one. @JimEB, I believe. I know we paddle the same water from seeing his posts. Wisconsin has some really good opportunities to do this activity. And then to combine it with some day fishing. Add the UP and we are pretty blessed here. There's some pretty awesome places and I'm looking to put out invites to some 2-4 day trips if enough members are into it. Hang out in camp, travel in solo expedition/touring kayaks and canoes. Do some exploring and fishing during the day. That kind of stuff. Doesn't have to be too crazy. Just some smaller laid back trips. If you are out there, let us know. |

20+ years ago, we did a bit of canoe camping. We only canoe camped in the Sylvania Wilderness Area. We did about 6 trips to Syllvania between 1995 and 2005.The fishing was great but lots of rules. In those first 10 years of UP living, we car camped most summer weekends, exploring the west half of the UP. We also did a lot of day trips fishing the Brule River from Brule Lake to the Brule dam near Florence WI. This was usually in short segments as it is a lot farther than imagined from Brule Lake to 189/139.  The fishing was best between 73/55 and 189/139, but it is longer than you think, also. And it rained, which makes it even longer. The Pine River oxbow was usually a weekly trip after work. It only took a couple of hours. At my age now, my canoe camping days are over. I do try to make the local bar poker run from Powers to Wilson. It's an afternoon trip with food, drink, and friends. Good luck with your plans. |
