Pappy's Smokehouse downtown St Louis. Daytime only visit, once they sell out they are out and you’re out of luck.

I'll second that recommendation going on Friday with my fingers crossed. I believe they open at 11:00 usually with people queuing up way before, I've gotten there right at eleven only to be about 100 people deep. They're very efficient, but table space comes at a premium. You won't regret the wait, they have another location in St Peters close to Academy Sports just off I-70 at the Mid Rivers Mall exit go right after the exit but it's not even close to the OG.

Agree with all of the above recommendations...
but, isn't BBQ kind of like sex? even bad BBQ is good!
