| Planning a trip in a couple months to Zion and Grand Canyon NPs. We are staying in Kenab, Utah and driving down for a full day. Since the north visitor center burned last summer, where are the best places to go for views, drives and day hikes? |

Kanab is very nice, places I like to eat are Los Tapatillos for sit down Mex. For fast food, Big Al’s at the Junction for burgers. The drive to the North rim is a cross between burnt match sticks and absolute beauty, there are several places to view the canyon, I don’t remember food past Jacob Lake, so pack munchies. If you have time, turn at Jacob Lake on 89A and go at least to the scenic pull out to view the Vermilion Cliffs. Save the receipt from Zion and do Kolob Canyons, it is part of Zion park so the receipt should get you in. If you have a vehicle that can do dirt roads, Strawberry Point near Duck Creek Village is like a Bryce pull out with out the guard rails or crowds. Paria Utah is also a cool place to check out, again a dirt road, but worth it. |

Ive actually been wondering the same thing.. good info above in the link. North Rim was our go to for camping at least once a summer. Easy 1 mile walk to the lodge. And that looks open again!!! Nice! It looks like on the pocket maps that of the main area you can still do almost everything but walk out on the point from the lodge... cape royal would probably be your best bet though. Dont forget to stop at Jacob Lake Inn and get some cookies. |
