What's a good average price to expect to pay per acre for bushhogging? Assuming the grass is pretty high, 2' - 3'.

My neighbor paid $500 for about 15 acres. That seemed like a bargain price to me, I would have thought closer to $50 per acre.

I wouldn't do it for less than $100 an acre

We were quoted $2k to do roughly 7 acres 🤕.  Although he did say that he couldn't bring his big brushhog in because of the size of the road and if he could it would be less.  So does that sound close-ish?  We tried to get access to a wider road that the power company owns that they use to access their easement on our land and they said "nope" so no help there. There's some debate on the height of the grass as well.  It may be higher in some areas, hard to tell just looking at it. At what height does the price increase per acre?

The power company has been no help with when it was last mowed or when it will be mowed again but said we were welcome to mow it ourselves

Seasons are changing - if you wait a couple of weeks, the weather change alone may take down the weeds. If the brush is not thick, a zero turn is your friend!

It's a power line easement so not really any brush, just tall grass. If we had full fencing I'd put some goats out there lol.

I got a quote of $3500 to do ~28 acres out here in Carroll. Guess I'll keep doing it myself...

Correct.  It looks like it's all on hold anyway since our creek crossing has washed out for the second time and now there's no way to get back there....also much of the area is 3 to 4' high grass. It would be super helpful if the frickin power company would mow it but they said nope.  They said it was "sprayed" by their contractor but whatever they did didn't have any effects so I'm dubious of their claims.

That is the new procedure. They used to send tractors out to bush hog every 2 years. Lately they send crews out with sprayers that selectively spray any saplings that have begun to grow in the right-of-way. They don’t worry about the grass. They kill the trees before they get much over 6-8 feet tall.

I would guess that is why you mostly have high grass to mow, or blackberry brambles, and don’t really need someone to “bush hog” your right-of-way.

I would guess that it’s been at least 4-6 years since they mowed the right-of-way that crosses through my property, but I’m sure they spray at least every other year, if not every year. I occasionally notice that an inordinate amount of saplings are dead out there, and then I know that they likely sprayed a week or 3 beforehand. Whatever they use, it’s potent stuff! But I never really notice that any of the grass around the dead trees seems to have been affected.

YMMV!!!

Ahhh...ok that makes more sense. I suggested a herd of goats but the lack of proper fencing nipped that in the bud.

If we can find a used side by side at the right price we're considering buying one of those pull behind mower decks.  Basically just an industrial size lawn mower you pull rather than push.  Of course now all that is on hold until we can solve the creek crossing dilemma.  A telephone pole bridge is in consideration.

Good luck with that, if the grass is really 3-4' high it will be slow going and will really be working the mower.

I agree, it's not ideal but once the grass is cut the first time it'll be far less difficult to maintain it. The quoted price to mow the property is the same as buying a mower.

Awesome, we will contact you as soon as we get the bridge fixed. Right now there's no way to access the easement.
