I don't know who may or may not have heard this story but I felt it is worth sharing. Especially those of us living in Illinois. If you ever had any doubts on how messed up this state has become, let me drop a 25+ year old story on you. Central Management System (CMS), was a state agency that was created to prevent corruption in any state contracts or work. IMO, they are now the ones that are corrupt and steal money from other state agencies. Back in the late 90's the ISP had a trial for their new sidearm. The were switching from 9mm to 40S&W. The caliber was chosen, but not the manufacturer. All the big players submitted. One of my best friends was fresh out of the academy and chosen to be part of the group that did the testing. A good story or two about Beretta customer service, or lack thereof. In the end Glock was chosen. As a thank you, Glock offered to engrave Illinois State Police for FREE on the slide. CMS finds out and informs ISP if the slides are engraved it make the firearm a specialized item that couldn't be reused or reissued to another agency. Therefore CMS was going to charge ISP $100 for every pistol they accepted with ISP engraved on the slide. ISP than contacted Glock to inform them ISP couldn't afford to have the "free" engraving. This is right up there with CMS charging IDOT $20,000/mo in rent for the District 9 office building in Carbondale. That building was constructed in the 1950's by IDOT decades before CMS existed. |

I used to work for the state of Illinois. I now work for the state of Iowa. Whenever my coworkers complain about IA state government, I tell them about CMS. When I first started working for Iowa I would tell my coworkers stories about working for the state of Illinois and how incredibly fucked up it is, I think they thought I was just a new guy telling bullshit stories so eventually I shut up. I guess to an outsider they do seem almost unbelievable. |
