The wife and I are wanting to take the camper to the beach without kids next summer, 2027. Looking for suggestions on places that are more attuned to couples and adults and aren't necessarily family-focused. No, we are NOT swingers. Just looking for places where families aren't the priority. Trying to tap into local knowledge here. Thank you |

Hate to say it, but I highly doubt you’re going to find an adults only community type place. Just looking at Google, they all have amenities for kids. Lazy rivers, huge pools, etc. Maybe Myrtle Beach State Park will give you better odds of less family crowding? |

I love Edisto. My family has a small house there that stays rented out all summer, so I go there frequently in the non-rental season. Edisto is small. Very small. It's like a small town feel. Edisto police are absolute evil about traffic tickets. Even one mile over the speed limit and they will ticket you. Consider yourself warned. Edisto has not much in the way of commercial development. There are 6 or 7 restaurants. They are expensive. McConkeys Jungle Shack, Whaley's, and Pressley's are the best. There is no mini-golf, there are no night clubs, there is exactly one grocery store. There are golf carts and families on bikes everywhere so have some patience on the road. It is marketed as a family friendly beach. That said, the beach has 3 segments: The beach at the state park is completely natural. Edisto is eroding like all barrier islands eventually do. The state park is not renourishing the sand, so at high tide there is no beach at all. If you go to the state park beach, when you get on the sand turn left and keep walking until you are not in a mass of people. The residential beaches at the public accesses are divided by jetties or groins that make the beach feel broken into "yards." Most families like this because they tell their kids to stay between the jetties to keep an eye on them. This part is renourished, so there is beach at high tide. Depending on the season, this part can be very crowded. The parking at the access points will tell you how busy that area will be. The third area is technically on the river. On the south end of the island the South Edisto River has a beach. This is actually my favorite part, even though it is a long way from our house. The beach here is the widest and flatest with very good shelling. Typically not very crowded. It is strange to have the waves hit the beach at a 90 degree angle though. The camp ground at Edisto is very popular. You will likely have to book your spot well in advance. It seems close to Charleston, but it's at least an hour drive to get there. But Edisto is a little slice of what used to be. It isn't Dirty Myrtle with commercialization and hoodlums. |

Update: I was able to get a spot at Edisto in 2027. There were only 3 spots available to fit our 22ft camper thay were close to thay dates we wanted, so I had to get one. Almost all booked 13 months out is crazy work. Crazy how I was reading that people will book 2 weeks and then adjust to their actual plans later. Lots of controversy online about if that is ethical or not. Anyway, just the wife and me, kids left at home with grandparents. See ya'll in 2027. And no, I have no preference in Clemson VS USC. |
