Anyone live here? Pros, cons? My wife and I got back yesterday after 4 days in the City and really enjoyed it. It has been a couple of years visiting the City (I’ve been there a couple of times for short work trips) and always had a great time, pretty shocked at how big it’s gotten in just 2-3 years. Anyway, it’s f one were to buy a second home in the area, where would you consider? Prices are nuts also, but if it’s the right property we could rent out, we can make it work. Thanks! |

Don't live there, but am always there for work. It depends on what you're looking for. For me, I'd be looking at Sale Creek or Dayton. Ooltewah if you want subdivisions and traffic. Not a huge fan of Chatt, but it is better than Memphis or Nashville. Good luck. |

Don't live there but I'm slightly closer to there than Nashville. If I need to do city stuff I prefer Chattanooga over Nashville. I used to go to the surrounding areaa lot for work and I would want to live a little further out like Jasper, South Pittsburgh, Bridgeport Al, Stevenson Al, Cleveland, or Benton TN. I don't want to be right in a city of that size. Just close enough to go when I want to. In my travels I have found these maps to be surprisingly accurate as a travel guide.

I think one of the major problems with America today is not enough families sit down to a big plate of squirrels momma just fried up.

Any place that requires using I-24 should be avoided like the plague, unless you like heavy traffic in construction zones with an almost daily 18-wheeler collision. I-75 is rapidly becoming a lesser, but similar nightmare. The I-24 / I-75 junction is a clusterfuck of major proportions that is basically unfixable. All that said, when you look at the map, you'll see multiple U.S and state highways generally paralleling I-75. These are the routes to take. You haven't said what your primary criteria are for a second home in the Chatt area: do you want to be close in with ready / quick access to the city, or have some land? Like everywhere else, it's a tradeoff. If I were to prioritize access to the city, I'd look at the Northshore or Red Bank area. If you'd rather have a house on a bit of land, it's just like everywhere else: the farther out you go, the more you can get. The above-mentioned areas of Sale Creek and Dayton will give you a roughly 1 hour drive into Chatt. Because of the TN river (and the lack of bridges north of Chatt) and the mountains, there are some practical constraints to where and how fast Hamilton County can grow, but it's definitely growing apace. You could look in northern GA, but then you'd have to consider state income tax. |

We’re basically looking for something downtown, I should have been more specific, that way we can use it whenever we want and want to various restaurants and such. North Georgia is fine also, but prices have really shot up the past couple of years. My wife previously lived outside of Atlanta for close to 20 years in Forsythe County and it was a solid location, but a pain getting to the airport. |

| If you like Cuban food, El Embargo on Cherokee Blvd is great. There's another Cuban restaurant, Beni's Cubano, in the Hamilton Place mall food court, of all places, which makes a really good Cubano sandwich, as well as good Ropa Viejo. |

| I live in Ooltewah and have a place out in Reliance to escape the city. Not much to do around here except maybe go to the knife shop. The Hixson side of the river is expanding rapidly and has the nicer of the two Academy’s, has Shooters Supply and is closer to Dead Zero shooting range. We avoid downtown Chattanooga due to the random stupidity that occurs there. I’m usually out in the mountains every opportunity I get. Check out GT Distributors when you’re back in the area. They always have something to spend your money on. |

I've bought a good number of used S&W revolvers, including three former MNPD Model 60's, and quite a few Blue Label Glocks from them. OP, if you do visit GT Distributors, bring a copy of your DD214. There are several manufacturers in addition to Glock who give discounts to honorably discharged vets. |
